I was at the game. I will say however that on a 3-2 count, he simply missed a called 3rd strike on the batter. Great curve ball by Meadows that had the crowd roaring and yes we were behind the plate, saw it and he missed it. PLAIN AND SIMPLE, MISSED IT. That started a walk that led to stolen base and, hit and then 3 run HR. Blame the ump no, everyone who has seen a baseball game has a problem with something someone does behind the plate, but that call hurt Mooresville tremendously. It should have been out #3.

But I would not say it is a conflict of interest. His help out there was "Sully" calling the bases whose boy played for Mooresville and whose daughter is a student at Mooresville, so I don't believe there was a conflict.

He missed a call and then some on some balls and strikes, but I have my own opinions of him as an umpire and I'll keep them to myself.

It could be worse. We could have no umpires show up and then where would we be.

TheGame08, no I was not at this specific game, but I have seen Joe call many games over the years, both HS and legion, I've watched him call Rowan schools and their legion team many times, I've watched him call games where even his own brother (maybe brotherinlaw) was at one time an assistant for one of the local teams,,, and again, I've simply never seen him show partiality or had a problem with him being out there. Of course, all umpires miss calls occasionally, they're human.

Listen, we'll just have to agree to disagree about the conflict of interest whether he should call in this area or not. I'm completely neutral on these teams, and folks who know me know that I'm certainly not a Rowan fan, I just enjoy good baseball and that includes giving the Rowan boys AND THE MOORESVILLE boys props when I can. Good luck with your team the rest of the year, you guys have great potential. I plan on checking Mooresville out as much as I can this spring and this summer, know a lot of good people in Motown.

I have never had a negative opinion of a game he called until this one. Meadows is arguably the best pitcher in the NPC, he walked 8 batters and only got 11 outs. He isn't a hard pitcher to call a game on IMO, 95% of the time he either throws strikes or misses terribly, one extreme or the other, and he did not have an off game Saturday either, he threw well, atleast as good as Roland. I also agree that Sully probably shouldn't have been on the bases, but there was only really one borderline call he made all game, the 9-5 where Compton threw a laser from right field to third was bang-bang and it went Mooresville's way.

Its still early in this season, Mooresville has plenty of ball yet to play and who knows Meadows may be even better because of this one tough outing.

Didn't south rowan beat Northwest 12-1 the other week with Overcash on the hill?
Why aren't they getting any buzz?

Yes, Northwest lost to SR and then to Mt. Pleasant but don't forget what happened after that. Two game streak with wins over W. Rowan and N. Iredell.
They will get another chance at South and it may be a different.

Salisbury Post Thursday March 6, 2008
Northwest Cabarrus' Ryan Overcash pitched a one hitter, didn't walk a batter and struck out 12 as the Trojans beat West Rown 6-0 for an NPC victory.
West(1-2,0-2 had only two baserunners. Phillip Miclat singled in the sixth for the Falcons' only hit.
"There's going to be nights when we struggle against good pitching and the Overcash kid just beat us to death," West coach David Wright said. "He was in a zone, and you just tip your hat to him. Plus, they did everything right behind him.
Brantley Horton took the loss. He struck out six in 5 1/2 innings.
Ryan Lazenby had two doubles for the Trojans. Daniel Welch went 2-for-2.
