Andrew Cain: Senior, Centerfielder for JH Rose High School

    1) What is your earliest memory of playing baseball
-I remember playing T-ball down at Elm Street Park when I was probably about 6 or 7 years old back in the good ole days.

    2) How did you get started in competitive tournament ball
-When I was 13 or 14 Coach Styons coached the Hurricanes and I played on that team with a few guys from Greenville and also had the opportunity to play with a few of the Rocky Mount guys too. We went to the Disney Classic in Florida and thats where it all began really.

    3) What do you do to prepare for a game
-Make sure i get a good nights sleep the night before. And the entire day I don't pay too much attention in school and only think about the game and what needs to be done. I also make sure i eat right on game day, nothing that will mess up my stomach.

    4) Who has been your role model
-I'd say my grandfather, he's kind of hard on me about sports because he is really into it himself and he expects the best of me which keeps me motivated.

    5) What was it like playing on your showcase teams
-Well I started playing Cubs with Coach Ricky Keith and I got to play in one game due to an injury. It was really fun at the time and it was a good experience playing against that level of talent. Now just about every team we play against in school ball has someone that played on Cubs and its fun playing against them.

    6) What game of yours is your most memorable
-I'd have to say the 15 year old state games in Cary. The championship game against Albemarle...bottom of the 7th, down by 4, bases loaded, 2 outs, and a 3-2 count and i hit a grandslam to send the game in extra innings which we ended up winning. It was like a type of situation you see on movies.

    7) What are your ambitions
-Well for this year, first of all I'd like to start hitting a little better...and i hope that we can make a big run in the playoffs and to the state championship. I think we definatly have the talent its just a matter of if we put it all together. Then next year I hope to have a great year at UNCW and then whatever happens happens!

    8) What is your favorite color and why
-Carolina blue...I really don't know why because i despise carolina. I like the color though.

    9) Are you dating
-Yes i am and have been for about a year and a half now. It's wierd because I've been in a major slump the first few games and they've all been away games, then our last game she finally decided to make the road trip to Eastern Wayne and she was late and didn't see my first to at bats which weren't to good then when she got there i got a hit and got out of the slump!

    10) Does your uniform number have a special meaning
-#7...nope just like the number for some odd reason, been that number my entire baseball career, no real reason.

    11) What are your parents names and sisters/brothers
    -Mom-Kim
    Dad-Lance
    Brother-Matt
    Sister-Katherine

Stretchy knows: Andrew is about 6' 6" and can run like a deer. He can also play firstbase and pitch when needed. He gets his good looks from his mom. His grandfather Bill Cain was the athetic director at ECU from 1975-80.
