In the Henderson/Transylvania areas the loss of some major industry has over the years caused some schools to shrink.

    Waaayyy Back!

I remember looking at my mother's yearbook from Charlotte's Central High School back in the late '40's. Their football team's schedule included Columbia SC, Greenville SC and a school in Atlanta. Talk about road trips!

I can remember Rocky Mount and Myers Park playing each other in football in the early to mid sixties. RM was known as the Blackbirds back then and would charter a train for the trip carrying 5000-6000 fans.

question: the list must not be all inclusive.............I don't see Wilson County schools Rock Ridge & Lucama, should have been in the 1A list.

Old Fort is the only McDowell County School I saw on those listings. I didn't see anything about the Marion Rippers...btw that realignment was about 2-3 years before all the schools here consolidated into the current McDowell High School.
