Both starting pitchers pitched well, after 6 innings their stats were-
    (GH) Chris Perry -- 0 runs, 2 hits, 8 SO, 3 W
    (MC) John Atkins - 2 runs, 6 hits, 6 SO, 1 W

With GH up 2-0, MC's Atkins was replaced in the 7th, and GH scored 3 runs on 4 hits. In the bottom of the 7th, Perry was going for the complete game shutout - but a hit batter, and a 2 out infield error, allowed MC's Landon Adams to blast a 3 run HR to put an end to that.

Chris Perry got the win, Dylan Kipp finished to get the save, while John Atkins took the loss. Landon Adams was (2-4) with the HR for MC, while GH sophmore Grant Shambley was (3-4) with a triple and 3 RBIs, and Eric Brady and Joe Pistacchio were (2-4).

East used offense from it's young players today as Freshman Luke Dunalp led the way going 2 for 3 with a double and his first homerun. Garrett Martin stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 3rd and hit the first pitch that he saw on the varsity squad. He hit a homerun to dead centerfield. He is only a sophomore and has scary power. Sophomore Shane Dickerson hit a 2 run homerun in the 5th inning to end the scoring for the Eagles. East used walks and an error and timely hitting to score 7 runs on 4 hits. East is going to have to get more production throughout the lineup if they want to go deep in the playoffs. East will play Greensboro Smith in the Metro 4-A conference opener

    Meca 7 - Hopewell over JM Robinson - (Fri-3/14)

    Hopewell - 23, JM Robinson - 6 (5 innings)

WP - Lane, LP - Bartlett

The Titans had a strong performance tonight at the plate. Jonathan Fisher and Jack Lane continue with their hot bats, with Fisher (Davidson signee) going 3 for 5 with 2 triples and 4 rbi's. Lane (UNC-W walkon) contributed 2 HR's to help his pitching cause with 4 rbi's. Blake McGee was also 1-1 with a HR; and Caleb Combs (jr) was 2-2 with his first Varsity homerun. Lots of two hits games for several players, and several singles scattered in as well. Hopewell improves to 5-1 with its only lost being to Sweet 16 #2/Myers Park the first week of the season. Rematch on Saturday 3/15.

    HOPEWELL - 7, MYERS PARK - 2 - (SAT - 3/15)

WP - Hunter May, LP- Robert Balsley

The much anticipated rematch between the Mustangs and Titans (originally scheduled for Wed, 3/12) started shortly after the JV teams played a tight game with Hopewell winning 3-2). Rain had fallen for a short period on the Hopewell field, but some quick field work allowed for the game to start around 12:15 Saturday afternoon. The sun game out shortly afterward for a pleasant afternoon of baseball between the #10 Sweet 16 Hopewell Titans and the #2 Sweet 16 Myers Park Mustangs, with a good turnout of supporters for both teams. Hopewell bats were once again consistent, allowing Hopewell to take the lead early in the game. But this was a "pitching victory" for the two Hopewell pitchers May and Fisher. Hunter May, sophomore, had a strong start for the Titans, keeping the Mustangs bats in check most of the game. Jonathan Fisher (Davidson signee) came in for the 7th inning to face the meat of the Mustang lineup, not allowing any runs to score and preserving the 7-2 score. This was a special victory for this set of pitchers from Hopewell as they had given up some key hits in the latter innings of the first matchup between these two teams, allowing Myers Park to come back from a 5-run deficit and win the game. But that was not the case this time around, as May threw well for his first varsity start, and Fisher came in to finish the job. Hopewell improves to 6-1.

    Hopewell vs. Myers Park Follow-up

May threw 82 pitches in 6 innings giving up just 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2K's, and 2W's. There was only one ball hit hard during the game, up the middle that resulted in one of the three hits and only three balls that made it to the outfield. Fisher came in in the 7th and did a great job closing out the game. It was a good win for Hopewell and a real confidence builder for their developing pitching staff.
