Middle School Baseball Bats ?????

My son is starting Middle School baseball and has outgrown the Miken Burn 2 1/4 barrel that I bought him last year. I was looking at the Anderson Pyrotech XT -5 2 5/8 barrel. Does anyone out there have one or have an opinion on their performance.

Or I am open for suggestions on other bats to look at.

Sorry no one has responded. There are tons of guys here that know this subject. I'll share the little I know.

1st, some counties require a -3 drop bat. I think you are looking at a -5. I wish middle schools used the -5 but most do not. Most are either a -3 or some have no rules at all.

As to the brand you have asked about, I have had no experience with that bat nor have I ever known anyone that used that brand of bat. I am more familiar with the Easton Stealth, Louisville Slugger X O Grid, a few Nike bats have gained in popularity, Demarini, and a few others.

Bats go on sale usually a few weeks before the College World Series because that is about the time the new models appear. There are sveral websites you can check; Eastbay, Baseball Express, Baseball Warehouse, Western Athletic and several more that some coaches may suggest.

If a kid can hit, he can hit with most anything. Find a bat he likes and has confidence in. I might also suggest a bat sleeve to use when in the batting cages or when the weather is cold at practice. And keep your receipt and warranty!

Middle School Bats

I agree with Oneputt, if a player can hit, he will perform well with most any of the newer bats that are available. My son used the Miken Burn 1 year of middle school and travel ball and it held up just fine. He has been thru many bats over the years (Easton, Rawlings, Louiville, Miken, Nike) and some held up better than others. He had several that literally broke in half while taking bp. I wish I could have had a picture of his face the first time this happened! He had one that the end cap would pop off frequently and has had several that seemed to dent too easily. I am a fan of the Louiville's TPX models (not the TPX AIR) and he currently uses a TPX in HS ball. Our middle school rules allowed -5 so that limited what makes we had to choose from. Like Oneputt, I highly recommend keeping your receipt as we had to use the warranty on more than one occassion. Also, the bat sleeve is a great idea. Now he takes bp mostly with a wood bat .
