Speaking with 1st hand knowledge, Christian schools have rivals also. Although they don't go to the extremes some public schools do such as painting each others school.

I have kid in public (Ragsdale) and private school (Wesleyan Christian). Some parents just do not enjoy exposing their kids to the environment of public school. I walk those halls. Tha language, the dress, the disrespect of some kids toward faculty, the smoking, the bullying. It's not something to admire.

My oldest is at Ragsdale because most private schools do not offer football, and the ones that do in the Triad are not as established as we were looking for. There are private and Christian schools that have excellent baseball coaches. Scott Davis at Wesleyan is an excellent baseball coach and extremely well connected with college programs. Corey Gesell does a good job at High Point Christian. And these guys coach the right way. They administer discipline when needed; not a 'win at all costs' mentality. They will sit there best player if needed. I saw Davis bench a kid for simply looking back at the umpire on a called strike. he benched the kid in the middle of the AB. I think we need a lot more of that. When they appooach umpires they do it respectfully and not scream accross the field at them. They don't curse at practice. They praise kids when needed and admonish them privately when needed.

I don't know why Aaron Jones made the move but the kid has a great reputation. Maybe he and his family put education above basebal. Maybe they thought Aaron could reach his baseball goals as well as his education goals by making a change. But I admire them for their choice. Not everyone would do it.

Maybe Aaron wanted to go back to where he originally started school and help out the baseball team. Maybe he had some childhood friends that he wanted to play his senior year with. This kid is a good kid with lots of potential and I wish him the best of luck at UNCW...btw...UNCW is playing really really good baseball these days!!

Wow, just read the Blog entries and this entire thread. Is the sportswriter for real? His ego must be bigger than the Greensboro market for him to be making the claims about himself that he does. The underlying message was, "How dare anybody question me. I have the most exeperience in this area and am beyond criticism." Very child-like response to the criticism he has caught over the article. The guy can claim all he wants to that he didn't take a shot at the kid and the family, but he did. It's clear to me that the writer has an unhealthy relationship with Grimsley High.
