Hopewell will be sponsoring a fundraiser for "Strikeout for Troops" (the charity endorsed by Barry Zito) at their home games today against Mallard Creek. The JV's will play at 4:30, following by 30 minutes or so of in-between game events, starting around 6:40, and a projected varsity game start of around 7:10. We will be having presentation by the colored guard, recognition of any armed forces personnel at the game, and a special guest for throwing out the first pitch. All servicemen and their families will be admitted without charge to the game. The Hopewell baseball players and their families have been selling raffle tickets to support this fundraiser. These $10 raffle tickets will continue to be sold at the field up until the 2nd inning of the varsity game, with the two winners receiving a paid trip (for 2) of their choice to Cancun, Las Vegas or the Caribbean. The Titans varsity squad will be wearing special jerseys for the game, honoring our troops, which will be "auctioned" off following the conclusion of the game. The grills will be going, specializing in hot dogs, hamburgers, and brats. Should be a fun evening so please plan to attend if your schedule allows. There will be good baseball, good food, and a chance to support a great charity (and maybe even with a trip)!

Great Night for the Titans and the Troops

The Strikeout for Troops Event last night, sponsored by the Hopewell Baseball Team was a huge success. We had about 350 people in attendance, along with military personnel. Although we don't have a final count on the total dollars raised, the after game event of auctioning off the Titan camaflouged jerseys was a big hit and alot of fun. We had a professional auctioneer who really got the crowd involved with the friendly rival bidding on the varsity jerseys. Some of the jerseys got rather "pricey" when girlfriend versus mother versus aunt versus grandparents got involved. With at least $3000 raised only the jersey auction alone, we considered the night a whole lot of fun and a huge success. We had several local TV networks present and the players themselves were really excited about the event and the feeling they had of "thanking" the troops. And I almost forgot....we won the baseball game too!
