    Impressed

I told Kenny what a great job he and everyone did today. What impressed me the most was the one on one instruction the boys got. I'm not talking spending an hour in the cage with each kid, but sharing tips and the small things that will make the players better if they listen.....

    Thanks

I appreciate the kind words. We had 58 players attend the tryout today at South Granville. I was really impressed with the talent on hand today. I was even more impressed with the quality of the young men we worked with. It was alot of fun I can tell you that. There were some very impressive young men to say the least. And everyone one of them really got after it today. If you came I want to thank you for bringing your son. It was our pleasure I can assure you.

    Scouting report

Coach May, I was there observing from a distance and saw quite a few I would love to start a team with. Definitely a few 2011's that will be on college radars soon if not already. We would be interested to hear your top 5 and why and where they attend high school. Thanks.

Being a dad who also sat thru the the camp as a spectator, that would be neat to know. Also, I'm not sure I completely understand the mission of the camp...were they looking for 1 or 2 kids, to put together an entire team, or just to have names of kids to keep tabs of in the future ...and will their be follow up contact (and when) with those who showed promise ? Thanks, it was a good experience.

    The purpose

of this tryout was to ID players to put on a team to play in the Impact 15u World Series. We have already ID'd some players from other ID camps and from scouting HS games this year. We wanted to give some other players the opportunity to tryout. Also we felt this was a great opportunity to see some other players that we have not seen yet. It was also a good experience for these young players to get their feet wet so to speak. There were a couple of other coaches in attendance and they were scouting for players as well.

We will be in contact with some of the players that were in attendance. There were some very talented young men at this tryout. If anyone that attended would like some feedback just send me a pm and I will be glad to talk to you. If you came we now know who you are. We got the chance to evaluate you. And we certainly enjoyed getting to meet you.

The turnout for this tryout was better than I had anticipated in both quality, and quantity. I think all of us who helped put it together were a little taken aback by the quality of the players who showed up. I know that the other few coaches who were there will likely make some contacts. I was especially glad to see some kids show up from my area that I thought would probably be on the borderline for what Coach May was looking for. Those kids have no idea right now how much it helped them to go through a workout like this. A lot of these young guys may be coming from areas where they always knew they would be assured of a spot on a team, and just kind of cruised along. The kids from Rocky Mount busted their butts at this tryout, and I was very proud of them. One kid in particular, who has had a recent growth spurt, and is just not as physically mature as some others showed a lot better than I thought. Very, very tickled he came. It should be noted that this boy also readily volunteered with equipment moving, and was the only kid I remember that went immediately to 2B to get the catcher throw downs. Those of you who came, even if you are not asked to play, should pat yourself on the back for getting into the fray to see how you stack up. Coach May will be glad to go over things for individuals if asked.

    Good Experience

Yes, what a day it was. Lots of good young talent. Not sure who will wind up on the Impact team but would like to know. The young man I remember taking the balls at second and helping with equipment, etc. was from the Pitt County area. He's a younger guy but has always played well in this age group.

if your were talking about the kid taking balls at second during the hitting, but he was from North Davidson.
