South Caldwell wins in the 8th inning. Not a lot of details but Cody Penny hit a solo home run in top of 8th and finished on the mound. Final Score

Wilson Fike ties Rocky Mount for 1st place

What a night. Gigantic crowd, Hot Chocolate in late April, 11 innings of baseball, a surprise starter on the hill and Baseball Britt going nuts on the umpires. At the end of the 3 hours of play the NEW 6 conference has a tie for first place with both teams sporting 8-1 records with one game to go.

If they both win on Thursday (i predict one will get upset) there will be a one game playoff to decide the first seed in the state playoffs. The game would be played at Rocky Mount at 7 pm on Friday.

Wilson Fike 9 Rocky Mount 8 in 11 innings.

    Rocky Mount 0 0 1 4 0 1 2 0 0 0 0
    Wilson Fike 3 0 0 0 5 0 0 0 0 0 1

Many individual highlights which I will post in detail tomorrow. Rocky Mount commits to many errors (5) which really cost them the game. In the bottom of the 11th Jacob Davis (4 for 6) reaches on a two base error in rightfield and then scores on a Mitchell Wheeler back side game winning hit.

Michael McLawhorn is the winning pitcher pitching the 4th, 5th, 6th and then comes back in to throw the 10th and 11th innings. UNREAL. What a night!!!!

East wins the Metro 4-A for back to back conference championships and will be the number one seed in the tounament and in the playoffs.

    EF: 18-4 (9-1)

Wow...what a game. I wish i could have seen this. Any truth to the rumor that Southern was so upset that he was last seen walking back to Scotland Neck so he didn't have to see Grayben

    opening round

Asheboro @ SWR postponed due to field condition - play Wednesday night. These teams tied for fourth regular season. Winner gets the fourth and last conference spot in the playoffs. Loser goes home.

tonight - Randleman 11 E Randolph 1 - five innings. Randleman will now play Ragsdale Thursday night @ E Randolph.

    in Jamestown

    Ragsdale-2------ 000 110 x 2 3 1
    Trinity----1------ 000 000 1 1 4 1
    WP Billy Stone (4-0)
    LP Wagoner

good pitchers duel in Jamestown tonight. Very few hard hit balls. Wagoner from Trinity was a lefty with a slow curve that gave the Tigers fits (3 hits, 4 walks, 6 SOs) SO Stone for Ragsdale continues to pitch well as the season winds down (4 hits, 2 walks, 6 SO). Ragsdale struck first as Nick McBride led off the fourth with a single, stole second, advanced to third and made it home on a wild throw to third. Ragsdale made it 2-0 in the fifth as Desean Anderson led off with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt by Kyle Brandenburg, advanced to third on a wild pitch then scored on a two base error as the pitcher lost a high pop by Billy Stone. By the time he landed Anderson was home and Stone was headed to second.

Play of the night in the sixth as Trinity led off with a single, runner moved to second on a GO, then with two outs a single to left looked like a sure run but LF Nick McBride scooped it up and fired a bullet on the fly to catcher Walt Sparks who reached high for the ball then got the tag down in time. That saved run was huge as Trinity scored a run in the seventh on a walk, error, fielders choice and a sac fly.

Ahh, but there's a good side to the story. Grayben owes several of us dinner at Beef Master. That's what he gets for having little faith in his hometown crowd. It WAS an entertaining game. Several kids for both teams stepped up their games last night.
