I would have to agree that he is quite the show to watch and is very full of himself but he is also one of the better ones out there and is quite consistent behind the plate considering what else has been out there ( like the 80 something yr old guy who cant even see anymore yet is always behind the plate ). I just wish he would understand that bats are very expensive and i shutter every time he throws bats back to the dugout.

I've only seen Larry once this year but I'll give him this, he has toned it down since his days of doing men's slow-pitch. Now that was a sight! I give him credit for being "in" the game, even if he sometimes wants to "become" the game. I'll take an umpire like that over one who just wants to get out of there as quickly as possible.

He actually believes people pay to come and watch him!! The game is about the young ladies participating, not any of the adults. His antics are an attempt to bring attention to himself and away from the game. I personally have had him too many times this year!

I like the games when the umpires are hardly noticed, when umpires try to be the show it hurts the kids, see Hollywood.

    The Best Umpire

The best umpire is the one you never notice.

No big show in the field - the game is about and for the players.
No wild calls - sticks to the basics and controls the game.
Consistent - strike zone is reasonable and stays the same for the whole game - and stays the same for both teams and every pitcher.
Discussion - If a coach questions a call, he has them come to the plate - not shout across the field and discusses it like adults.
Deaf - to the comments of the crowd - unless someone is way out of line.

If, at the end of the game, you do not even think about the umpires or discuss them, the umpire did his job exceedingly well.

If you know him very well - he needs to find another calling.

this is cabump. the role of the umpire is to officiate the game and not be noticed. that is how you know he did a good job.
