Again I will say that ultimately the responsibility lies with the parents. Make the parents held legally responsible for their actions and it will not be an issue.

I do agree however that if a coach or AD knowingly allows a player on a team that does not live in the school zone or is using a false address then they should be terminated on the spot !!!

Even if the school employees are complicent in the activity the parents are still ultimately responsible as they are the ones that file the paperwork with the school. What lesson are we teaching our kids ??? Breaking the rules is ok if it benefits your child.

What happened to CMS and them spouting off they have a "no tolerance" plan yet when it comes to this they slap wrists. Our society has become one of not holding individuals responsible for their actions.

As mentioned earlier its the kids who seem to get hurt by all of this as well, but they should know what is right and wrong and to dismiss it to the coach's and parents fault is exactly why many of our youth have little respect for authority and make excuses for their actions instead of living by guidance of morals and what is right/wrong, and knowing there are consequences to your actions !!

 

Opinion has been reversed

Not that it matters to anyone, but, based upon some the posts on here, I have basically changed my opinion on this matter. Originally, I was supporting the ball team and was in favor of letting them play unaffected by the ruling. However, you folks are right....rules are rules, and need to be enforced to ensure fair play for all high school sports. Big Cat and CTH1611 made very good points.

The best example of this type of impropriety was last football season. South Meck was made to forfeit the playoffs and their season....all the while, thinking they were in compliance with all NCHSAA rules. In contrast, West Charlotte & The Big I were able to finish their seasons, including runs for the state championship, knowing they had illegal players all along.

Long story short: Guess Weddington won the SW4A conference and Butler should perhaps suffer the same fate as South Meck football team.

The only way to fix it is to make a stand....firm, but fair. People will only obey the rules if they know the rules will be strictly enforced.

NOBODY IS PERFECT, EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES!!! You all need to sit back and think what if it were your own child. How would you feel if you had to deal with all of this. You would not be saying the things you are now. I know your probably saying right now that you would never do this, but if it meant as much to you as it probably does to them, you would. And like someone said the Butler softball team is very talented and their coaches would not risk the chance of ruining a chance for those girls to win a third straight state championship.

I agree with you.....but where do you draw the line?

I know those girls have been amazing....see my earlier post...and I know the kids on the field should not be penalized because of a kid that didn't play much. But, are you telling me that the broken rules should have no consequence? If that's the case, then there should be NO RULES!

All high school season the Bulter crowd was calling foul about a team from the east ranked in the top spot. Now they got busted . I'll bet my bottom dollar if it was the other way we'd need congress involved. But then again win at all costs ................

Folks, I think that enough about this matter has been said here in a public forum that is supposed to be promoting our softball players and their accomplishments. I feel sure that CMS and the NCHSAA will handle this matter in a timely manner. My two cents worth.

 

Agreed CometFan. If one needs to place blame I'd place it on WSOC Channel 9 for publicizing a nonstory.

I read this earlier, didn't think anything more about it, but on second thought...

Obviously you are the parent (or very close to the parent) involved as this is your first post....and that is cool.

But here is the point. What are we teaching our kids about LIFE, not softball, or HS, or anything else, but LIFE if we allow something outside the lines of fairness and reality to overrule what we know in our hearts to be right?

What are you teaching your child if you allow him/her to choose to go to a school where he/she is not legal just to play a sport? It is saying your priorities are totally out of whack.

But what is it telling my kid if I used her grandmothers eastern Union county address or my brothers/sisters south charlotte address and carted her 30 minutes EACH way every day? It is telling her it is OK to cheat to get what you want.

Sorry, one day they won't be playing sports and they are going to have to deal with LIFE. Job they don't particularly like, room mate they don't get along with, co-workers, teachers, COACHES, they don't jive with. But at the end of they day she has 2 choices. Play and suck it up, or play another spring sport.

I know she wants to go to Butler, incredible school with a great tradition. But is it worth what she is now dealing with?
