    The ripple effect

from last year continues. At least Draughn backed out early, although I wish BCPS and Draughn could have learned a lesson from the mess at Patton last year involving football.

The article is interesting. I think Patton should go to Maiden to play, and I think they will. Asking Freedom to change their game is silly and never would be a reality. Patton coaches tried to get their varsity status changed early but the powers that be were against it. In fact they were forced to have an "open tryout" to field a varsity team. That was a joke and darkened the black eye on Patton a little more. And I see the article is harping in on the East Burke thing as well. PAtton has 2 nonconference games in their final year of the CVAC. They are playing Freedom (4A) and then play in possibly one of the toughest conferences in the western part of NC. Hickory, NC, Maiden, BAndys, Freedom, St Stephens, Hibriten will all be extremely tough games for a school that has only 1 year of JV football experience. They will have a chance against Bunker Hill and Fred T Foard but will have to play extremely well to do so. The varsity decision was about safety for their kids. How many of their players have to play both ways due to lack of numbers. ALOT! I would say that the same decision was made not to play EB for the same reason. EB has risen to one of the top 4A teams in the state and playing PAtton will not help them at all. Why would they want to play Patton, THe argument could easily be said to beat up on a lesser opponent. The argument goes both ways. The game does not benefit either team athletically. I dont know if Patton would come out with all their kids healthy after Freedom and EB. Freedom is going to be better this year. THey are extremely physical and have great size. EB enough can not be said about their game against Independence. I dont think that 2-3 years down the road Patton will duck anyone. They will want to play the best talent to make their kids better. They wrote the proposal to play in he Shelby, Burns, East Rutherford, RS Central, Freedom conference. Does that sound like someone that doesnt want to play tough opponents? I dont think so. It doesnt get any better than Shelby and Burns. And I am sure that they will try to play all the Burke co. Schools as well. Let them build their athletic programs. God knows they need to , were you at any basketball games? It was always ugly with the exception of Maiden.

Sounds like Patton didn't want to have to face Hickory for another four years... :pyth:

I was just putting the article up to see what people though.I wasnt intending to bash Patton.who is their other non conference game.I also know the powers that be at patton try to run the show and make input on who the teams play.

JK Adkins at Patton is a class act and a very good football coach.

    .....make no mistake about that.
