I'm proud of you. You have moved up to be first in class...surpassing Coach Evans and leaping Coach Pope. I love a professional!

As happy as I am for Grayben and smiling at the thought of him doing the funky chicken in the parking lot after the game, I'm equally saddened at the thought that this was Kenny May's last HS game.

The memories of all those kids he has coached from 10 yo up to the time they graduate is one that he will never forget. And to think this will be the last time that he will coach Jeff and Pratt has not sunk in yet.

But after a couple of days to reflect on the wonderful journey he has been on with all the players he has affected, it will turn from sadness to unbridled pride and joy for the memories they have provided him.

It's time for him to enter the next stage of his life and I'm sure it will be filled with rich and new experiences. He's a one of a kind coach that Andy Partin has quickly recognized as being instrumental to the future of Dirtbag baseball.

My hats off to an outstanding guy and coach...HS baseball will truly miss him.

Is this related to the Beef Mastor steak place in Wilson? One of the best steaks I've ever had.

    Congrats to Wilson Fike

It was a very intense game and both teams played their hearts out. In the top of the first with 2 outs Pratt Maynard doubled to left field. Then Jeff May doubled to right center to plate Maynard and the Vikings went up 1-0. The score was still 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th with 2 outs when Jacob Davis doubled to right center. Fike then hit a routine fly ball to left field and the left fielder thought it was hit alot harder than it was. He broke back and then back in and the ball fell in and Davis scored to tie the game. Fike plated two in the bottom of the 6th and went on to win 3-1. Fike made a couple of errors early and we had our chances but didnt get a bunt down and made a base running mistake. When we made mistakes Fike made us pay. Maynard was tremendous again on the mound with double digit k's and only giving up 4 hits. Massey was tremendous as well only allowing 4 hits as well. The difference in the game was Fike taking advantage of our mistakes and us not taking advantage of theirs.

Both teams showed tremendous heart and desire to win the game. Both teams played with great class and respect for the game. The fans were great on both sides. I only got upset at one call and that was a 3-2 fastball down the heart by Pratt in the bottom of the 6th that was called a ball and allowed the lead off man to reach. But that did not cost us the game. Fike won the game straight up and deserves to move on.

It should be a great match up with Rocky Mount on Tuesday. Congrats to Coach Flowers on a great job this year and to Coach Smith at RM.

My last HS game? Maybe. My last game at SG? Maybe. We will see.

hats off to Pratt and Jeff

Most of the heart left on that field Saturday night came from those two. That's what makes them so gritty...it starts with heart and desire to be the best. All kids should take a lesson. We'll see about coaching future...do you think Coach Ferrell and Coach May have done all they can do at SG? May be time for them to move on to a bigger arena...
