    Good teams

have players that not only understand their role that day but accept it. They also understand it is up to them to expand that role. It might be that your role that day is running for the catcher. You may end up on second base and have to score the winning run on a base hit. If the only guys that feel important are the nine guys starting you dont have much of a team imo. And if the guys that do not start are not working to take someones job every day in practice you are not going to get better as a team during the course of a season.

    DR

I know a kid that saw very little if any playing time until his senoir year, but he was fast as lightening so he was a DR every game his junior year. He now holds the school record for career stolen bases. This kid worked hard every practice without complaining and filled his roll perfectly. pretty nice reward for a deserving kid that "waited his turn"

    Thank you sir.

And as for the DR scoring winning runs. We played a team in Conference play this year. I was the DR at first. Double to outfield in a 2-1 game and I scored from first on what seriously was bang bang. It was one of those you push yourself until you can't get up after your done sliding. I went in hard and ended up safe. Electrified the bench and jump started the game. Ended up scroing 14 more runs to make it something like 16-17 to 1. Being the DR is one of the most underlooked but yet important parts of a HS game.

Take it or leave it. I think it's fun as heck running around the bases and getting dirty. Then when your outta breath, you get to sit in the dugout and crack jokes, eat crackers and sunflower seeds, and drink gatoraide and water. What's wrong with that?
