Great games this weekend at the Creek. Congrats to all state champions.

Just a Thought... The Creek is a pretty nice facility for softball. Plenty of parking, 9 fields and so on, but I wonder why the state Baseball championships are played at places like Doak Field at NCSU, or 5 county Stadium ( home of the Mudcats ), or even UNCG. Why can't the girls get a chance to play at Dail Softball Stadium ( NCSU ) or Anderson Stadium ( UNC )or at UNCG. My point being, Walnut Creek has been played so much and the city hasn't really maintained it the way it should be. Give our girls and our game a chance to play or be played in some of these fine college stadiums. Anyone have thoughts are an opinion?

I agree. The fields at the Creek are to the point of dangerous. The lips between infield and outfield changed the out come of some games. Can we not play out games at fields that do not require portable fences? The fields at The Creek are the worst the teams play on all season. With the state asking $10 a head and $3 to park its time the girls got better fields, the deserve it.

    change

what about changing the format and could play at diifferent venues (like NCSU new stadium and UNC facility). maybe 2 classifications per venue instead of all 4 at WC.

We have have this discussion every year

For me the state softball championships seem like little more than another NSA trophy tournament. Walnut Creek is fine for men's slow pitch but not appropriate for state title games. How does this compare with boys playing at five county stadium?

    Walnut Creek

not to mention the scoreboards need bulb replacements, the concessions were slow and viewing from the bleachers is difficult to see the batters.

The lip where the dirt meets the grass is more like a shateboard ramp. Saw a situation Friday night where a routine base hit up the middle hit the lip, bounced straight over the centerfielder's head, rolled to the fence and turned a single into a three run triple.

These fields are substandard for fastpitch softball. The infields are too big, the infield/outfield lips are not maintained, some of the outfields have very uneven ground, the temporary fences are too low for 200 feet.

The infield/outfield lip situation was a definite game changer in one of the biggest high school softball match ups of the entire year. Butler is very lucky!

The lighting situation is a grave concern. These fields don't even come close to passing the NCHSAA's own lighting standards. Dim light may be OK for men's slowpitch, but it's a serious safety hazard for the level of fastpitch softball being played today. Ball field lights get dimmer with age and require replacement at some point, even if they don't burn out. Some of these fields should be condemned for night games.

This event brings a lot of money, and media into Raleigh each year. The NCHSAA should either move the event or get the City of Raleigh to provide a facility that's playable.

I wonder how much the planners of the event even know or care about the current popularity of fastpitch softball.

Everyone needs to e-mail Q Tucker at the state association nchsaa.org and complain about this situation. It is truely unfair for the girls to have to play the most important games of the year on what is not even a good rec field. Put a single classification at a college facility like every other high school sport does and play in a real softball facility that is in immaculate condition. Maybe the state association should have a Title IX lawsuit filed against it over this issue!!!

The concessions have always been SLOWER than SLOW!! That has been complained about for years!!

As far as their interest in fastpitch? I believe they are currently having their slowpitch 16U leagues going full swing. I believe their is a little effort to have fastpitch in the fall! But there is nowhere near the effort the girls deserve to have for fastpitch.

I've heard they don't have much interest shown in fastpitch but my opinion is they don't promote it sufficiently. That's why the inner city schools don't have much to show during playoffs.

They have good football and bb programs!! That's great for the guys!! Girls don't need much I guess!!
