these transcend level of play and speaks to how the baseball community at large -- fans, players, families and coaches -- treat the game with reverence and respect.

the college baseball regionals just wrapped up yesterday, so the season (and career) ended for many young men around the county. florida state ended the season for three teams -- florida, bucknell and tulane -- in tallahassee this weekend. i was at the stadium monday night and couldn't be prouder of our classy fans.

here's two examples of why baseball (especially here in tallahassee) is so beloved:

first, what happened saturday night in tallahassee between the fans and the opposing bucknell pitcher who had shut out the seminoles.

second, what happened nine years ago in tallahassee when the providence baseball team played the final game in school history when the program was dropped because of title IX.

be proud of the sport you love and the sense of family that is its' lifeblood.

    enjoy.

Posts like this about stories and adventures through ones mind and sould, is what keeps me coming back to TBR. The knowledge shared around here is remarkable. I don't come to TBR to discuss rankings or scouts or players or fans or coaches. But to talk about what goes on inside those scouts, or players, or fans and coaches. The Providence story was amazing, almost made me cry. Hopefully they can get their program back up to where it was if they haven't already. Thanks for the post, opens your eyes to alot things in this world that I wouldn't have seen without posts like this one.

    Thanks

the tulane radio announcer came on and posted this:

    To the FSU fans...

Let me start off by saying that I just concluded my 16th season broadcasting Tulane baseball, so I have been to my share of college ballparks during that stretch. I felt compelled to say on the air, and now here, that this past weekend was, without a doubt, the best experience that I have had on the road. Your ballpark, your fans, your staff...not to mention your team, are tops on the list. There were times I didn't want to say anything, jut so the people listening back home could hear the cheers (and singing) on the crowd mic. If you didn't know any better, you would think you were at a soccer match in Wembley Stadium...the standing O for Matt Wilson is something I'll always remember...When our players were singing the chants and Sweet Caroline on the bus ride home yesterday, you know that an impression was made.

I know the last 2 days were tough on us, but the best team won the regional. I have NEVER seen a hitting display like that in my life the last 3 days...with some pitching and D, there is no doubt you guys have what it takes to win it all. I can tell you this, there is no doubt as to what team I'm pulling for...the only regret I have is that Tulane and FSU won't meet again on the baseball diamond for who knows how long. Hopefully we'll meet again soon, THIS time though in our brand new ballpark in New Orleans, and many of you make the trip west.

Good luck against the Shockers and hopefully back in Omaha!!

    TG

I applaud the great fans, "Animals", at the FSU games. Classy act applauding their opponents. Too bad, Larry, you weren't able to get in that picture with the Bucknell player....Classic!!!!!

i sat with them in high school and college. when i went monday night with ty (age 8), we sat in the right-field bleachers. it was way crowded.

it's great to be in an atmosphere that acknowledges the game of baseball is bigger than the game being played. i was talking to ty the whole time, explaining everything.

Really, that's what baseball is all about----Father teaching son and passing on the passion for the game.

Great stories! There is nothing like FSU baseball and I just love their legendary coach, "11", and his son is awesome, too!

I believe LarryD grew up in the same neighborhood as "11". I know, Observer, you have a special connection with Coach Martin, too
