    the Polk situation

I really don't know the time line of how all this coach "search" and new AD actually transpired at MSU, although I did look back on their website and could not find where Polk had ever "named" Tommy Raffo as the coach. I know it's all about respect and I agree with that, but hadn't you better make darn sure that the administrators are in agreement and everything's offiicial before you go out on a limb and select your successor. People's families and lives are at risk. Something's not right here and Braves I agree this will get ugly before it's resolved.

AND Bowden's successor has been named...........it's Jimbo Fisher. Official.

A very successful Bill Willhelm retired from Clemson and was allowed to pick his successor. He chose Jack Leggett and it worked very well (depsite the record from this year).

Leggett coached under Willhelm for a year and then was elevated to the head coach.

He thought it was approved. But there is nothing else I can say that I haven't already, so I'll move on.

Reading comments by MSU fans on a couple of boards it appears the MSU supporters are embarrassed by Polk and his ego.

If you want to believe that message board posts are a credible source to get accurate information, then Mike Fox would have been fired 3 years ago.

In fairness, I saw some posts that said they were embarrassed and i read some posts that were in support.

The situation has become so tenuous that there is no chance for a positive ending.

    PROGRAMS built by PREMIERE.....

....coaches MUST rely on the retiring coach to perpetuate the programs success. This idea aint' new folks, nor is it a slam in the face of the future coach. Transition means EVERYTHING. Braves said that when Dean left Bill Gtuthridege was in line for the coaching job, and he certainly paid is dues to get there. But Guths hiring was only to appease folks. Hell, I'll bet 'ol Bill could have cared less about being the head coach after Dean left. But the passing of the baton from a legend to his asst. was handled with class at UNC....(the other STATE Univ.). It seems to me that the same respect should have been granted to RP. I'm sure he didn't leave the program at a time when his roster was hurting for talent. Lastly, some ADs have an ego way bigger than the coaches they employ.....I guess that comes from growing up being a team manager, who never could hit a fastball. .............so he learned to wash socks and now the rest of the athletes work for him....go figure! Marlin, Centerfielder, who can't spell TIDE.

    mellowing out.....maybe?

This situation has been interesting to follow, if you enjoy and appreciate college sports. See link below. Sounds as if cooler heads are now beginning to prevail; hopefully this matter will have an good ending for all concerned.

But there is an issue that is disturbing. He mentions having an office next to the new coach, and helping with practice, etc., etc. I mean I know this goes on with "legend" coaches, but isn't there a fine line between helping and meddling? I read that Coach Polk's life has literally been MSU baseball; apparently he never married and has no siblings........he lives and breathes it 24/7.
