    There Are Some !!!

I've been doing this a long time, and you can't say anything to some people, want mention any names, but I just wanted to clear up that a negative demeanor can DESTROY a win, that was my only meaning behind what I said... nothing personal was taken...hey I just love the game..and just a little more intense than a lot of those out in TBR land---LOL---!!!!

    What

DukeDog, I guess I am in a fog here cause nothing I said had anything to do with your post, just simply making some coaches thoughts known and speaking of a particular situation. I have sent kids to UNC, NCSU, Tenn, Maryland, Furman, as well as other D-1 and D-11 schools so am very much award of what it takes to get kids to college in a sport and the academic requirements. Also, I think my point was all kids should be treated with respect and all kids can find a home to play softball if they have the academics to get in college. You make some very good post with lots of knowledge packed into those post but I just did not understand how my post brought your last one. Agree with your comments on loving the game and the need for academic performance.

    Enjoy it while you can!

I have been reading these comments with interest, I am a Head Coach in High School, and my girl just graduated! She has been our lead off hitter for 4 yrs, being all-conference 4 times, all-district, etc, etc. We participated in travel ball since she was 12yr. old. Her love for the game and leadership was un matched. She was recruited by 1- DI school and 2-DII schools. Before the high school season started, she told me she did not want to go to college to play ball, but instead just be a student. I was crushed, but then talked more to her, and understood. Heres the kicker, In our last game in the state playoffs, now granted she is only 5'2' tall and 115 lbs, soaking wet, she jacked 3 home runs, went 4-4, and had a grand slam. I was in shock!....we lost but, the pride was unbelievable. After the game we hugged and cried, and all she said was Thank You Dad, Thank You for everything.....what away to go out. Now she is talking about maybe being a walk on, at her college..Point being, it does come to an end./ So enjoy it while you can!

Some kids (particularly girls) just want to move on!

I've seen this more than once. Girls play ball for lots of different reasons. For many it's social as much as anything. Believe it or not this remains true even in college.

If she never takes another swing no one will be able to take away what she did in that last game! What a cool way to end her career. You should be very proud!

TCoach19....amen and amen. It does come to an end and kudos to you for listening to your DD and what SHE wants to do. I think in some other post, Coach Dobbins pointed out that playing softball in college is a big commitment and most do not truly understand that until they are living it. Your life becomes softball, every free minute you may have is devoted to the sport in some way. Not all are prepared for this reality and then to try and keep the grades up in between. It is work and it is not always fun. High school and travel ball are fun but unless you are truly dedicated to the game, it is not for everyone. There is nothing wrong with going to school to just be a student. Life does go on after softball!
