God is using Josh to show anything is possible

I started a post a couple of months ago “Josh Hamilton to the Rescue” and the nay sayers jumped all over me. I haven’t seen one negative post since last night’s unbelievable performance. I just heard an announcer of ESPN say “he did what no mere mortal has ever done.”

How many kids did Josh “Rescue” from becoming drug addicts last night? How many kids will say “I want to be like Josh Hamilton, but I’ll never do drugs like he did?”

I walked up the steps out of the Yankee dugout one time when my friend Alex Webster was the head coach of the NY Giants and I remember seeing how huge that stadium appeared and I can not believe how far he hit those balls last night.

Josh is truly one of the greatest players ever. And what he did for the popularity of baseball last night will last for years and years.

God bless him and keep him clean so we can continue to watch him play the great game of baseball.

    Awesome

Me and my whole family were in awe of the number and distance of the HR's he hit last night. I was telling my wife Josh's story as he was hitting the bombs and the story of Clay, his BP pitcher.

The combination of those 2 stories is great.

After it was all over and Josh said "I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" we all had tears in our eyes. I told my family that I believe that the devil will be all over Josh today. Let's all pray daily for Josh that God will put a hedge around him and will continue to use him and bless him. What happened to Josh could happen to any of us or our children. What he has gone through and who got him through is a great witness for youngsters everywhere.

The devil may be all over him today, but if you will read the quote from the attached ESPN article, you will see that Josh knows he is not in his fight alone.

"Within my first week of sobriety in October 2005 -- after I showed up at my grandmother's house in Raleigh in the middle of the night, coming off a crack binge -- I had the most haunting dream. I was fighting the devil, an awful-looking thing. I had a stick or a bat or something, and every time I hit the devil, he'd fall and get back up. Over and over I hit him, until I was exhausted and he was still standing.
I woke up in a sweat, as if I'd been truly fighting, and the terror that gripped me makes that dream feel real to this day. I'd been alone for so long, alone with the fears and emotions I worked so hard to kill. I'm not embarrassed to admit that after I woke up that night, I walked down the hall to my grandmother's room and crawled under the covers with her. The devil stayed out of my dreams for seven months after that. I stayed clean and worked hard and tried to put my marriage and my life back together. I got word in June 2006 that I'd been reinstated by Major League Baseball, and a few weeks afterward, the devil reappeared.
It was the same dream, with an important difference. I would hit him and he would bounce back up, the ugliest and most hideous creature you could imagine. This devil seemed unbeatable; I couldn't knock him out. But just when I felt like giving up, I felt a presence by my side. I turned my head and saw Jesus, battling alongside me. We kept fighting, and I was filled with strength. The devil didn't stand a chance.
You can doubt me, but I swear to you I dreamed it. When I woke up, I felt at peace. I wasn't scared. To me, the lesson was obvious: Alone, I couldn't win this battle. With Jesus, I couldn't lose. "

What an inspirational story. I had cold chills as I watched last night and again as I am reading this thread.

I too have felt the prompting to pray for Josh and his family today. I think it is awesome that other believers are interceding on their behalf. I also am encouraged by Enkamoms post. It is great that Josh is well aware of how to win the battle!

Last night Josh not only made baseball history, but I am sure he left an eternal mark which is so much greater! Well done Josh!

Wow...this thing just keeps getting better. Some of you know that I'm a man of the 'Cloth'. I'm generally skeptical when people attribute messages to God. God can & does still speak...but we're living in a time when people give God credit for alot of things that aren't legit.

All that to say: I don't doubt Josh's testimony one iota. And it warms my heart to think how young he still is. This guy has a chance to kick the Devil's backside for years to come. Walk tall, young man. You're in my prayers...& you're my hero too.

    A 6 tool player?

This is so good that....we are not even talking about his Monster Jimmy Jack's...I hope he becomes baseball's truly great role model on and off the field.
