Just got home from the two games today! Shelby does put on a great tournament.

Randolph County played a great game today...

The Sumter/Shelby game was neck and neck until the end...

My prediction is whoever wins the 1st game tomorrow will beat Shelby and take the regional, just this guys opinion

    what did they do?

I know that Shelby did have have to compete for an Area championship or the State tournament. So did they just not play any games during that stretch? just practiced?

Duke Power is donating the tickets

Listened to the game yesterday and heard that Duke Power is sponsoring the free tickets. Being in Raleigh, it is great to listen to basically high school sports on radio announcing all the sponsors. Was in Shelby a few weeks ago and was great to see all the businesses that had signs sponsoring the tournament

does Shelby's legion team get an automatic pass to the WS even if it loses the regional?

Shelby and Gastonia Post 23 played 3 exhibition games against each other the week leading up to the state tournament in Gastonia.

I don't think Shelby gets a free pass to the World Series. Actually, I'm about 99.9% sure that the host doesn't automatically get there.

When was the last time a World Series host advanced to the World Series?

JM15 is correct, host only gets bid to state or regional tourney, but does NOT automatically get a bid to World Series. Of course, this host (Shelby) is on the verge of earning a bid if they win today.

I'm not sure if this answers JM15's question, but Rowan County hosted the tourney in 1996 and swept the tourney and advanced to the World Series. Rowan then got to the finals of the winners bracket of the World Series, but dropped their next 2 games. Rowan did not win the state championship that year. I think they ran into a very tough Kernersville team at a time they had a few injuries to key folk. They rebounded nicely, however.

No....I'm in Raleigh. Judging by the comments, Shelby has put on a tremendous event. Kudos to them.
