    Agreed

But, I never said that they would be. But, if they want to get players seen to reach their goals mentioned. They may choose to enter into the showcase world. If that was to happen. What then?

    dissappointed so far with Veritas

The Veritas Sports Academy who is currently functioning at First Christian Church in Kernersville started a baseball feeder program. The kids play for USSSA, Nations, etc. Veritas was supposed to cover alot of the funding for tournaments, uniforms, coach salary, etc. Also alot of kids who are excellent baseball players were pulled from other travel teams to make up 13U, 12U, 14U teams with hopes that thier kid would be looked at and considered for Veritas Academy, no gaurantees of course. Just found out that Veritas disassociated themselves with the program after it has gotten really started and the teams are doing so good. Coaches have been paying for tournaments and uniforms and are happy with thier team but now have no support from the academy. Anyone know what is going on with Veritas as far as their plans. I heard their funds were froze.

Hi...not sure what is happening with baseball. My husband is working on a school promotional DVD with many of the staff and students. There has been nothing that he has heard that has been bad...quite the opposite.
Basketball is stable. Nike is our sponsor. The kids got their practice jerseys and ordered their team shoes this week. We have been having ACC coaches at about every practice. Maryland, V Tech, Miami, NC State, Stanford, etc. They are very considerate of NCAA rules. The team will start games in November. They will be in Puerto Rico just after Christmas and fly out to Minnesota the day after they return (a Nike sponsored event) to play one of the top schools in the country.
I do know that some ofthe original trips to Australia and Africa may be postponed due to budget. I am sure they are just working out kinks this year. The staff is incredible and very dedicated to making this first class all the way. The only thing we have had to pay for has been the school uniforms. My son is thriving academically for the first time in his life. It is challenging, but the low class numbers make it easier for him. I wish the baseball team luck.

They'll probably be fine. Anytime you combine baseball and travel teams there will be drama, especially in that U-trip mess.

I noticed the Proehlific Power team this weekend had some players from this school. Is the team going to be really good?

Really hard to say Stretch. I know some of their players. Self is a pretty good pitcher and should anchor the staff. I remember Mark Nales being good. I would think the daily training they are doing will help. But it's hard to say. Don't know who they will play, they have not played together yet. I think it's too early to say or even have an opinion. I just hope the school does well.

I still want to go to Veritas

The school is a great thing. They have exceptional players such as Logan Self and Mark Nales that I play with on the Proehlific Power team. I have learned a great deal from them both, they are both leaders and take charge type of players. Nales never gets down and picks the team up while Self just pitches another winning inning. I wish that I played just half as good as those boys there. I didn't have the grades to go there this year, but I am doing better in school this year just so I can go there next year.

I tend to be a little on the cynical side, but I don't understand the motives behind this academy. No tuition and deep pocketed sponsors (read NIKE) give me the impression that this is a marketing tool for a huge corporation and not the noble intentions that have been discussed here. Now I can understand why a player might want to be part of it, and if the academics are strong why a parent would want their kid there. But the motive of the benefactor is my biggest concern. If it was more than a sports factory, admission wouldn't be dependent on making a team. I don't like what it stands for, at least as far as I know from reading this thread and the linked articles.

The beauty of Veritas is you can choose to go (if accepted) or you can choose not to go. The decision is based on the individual family. I find it hard to judge the book by its cover. From reading these threads, I think it is a great option for those kids that want to grow in baseball while getting a quality education. From what I understand, the baseball players work on speed & agility 2 - 3 times per week. They work on their baseball skills 2 - 3 times per week on the field. Great combination. They are getting bigger, stronger and faster with paid trainers. They are getting to work on baseball skills on the field 2 - 3 times per week year around, unlike the public schools. They will attend "Showcase" tournaments in the Southeast as a team. The fact that the school is free makes it even better. I would assume if you do not excel in the classroom that you could lose your scholarship. I think that is a great lesson for those young men to learn before going to college.

Sounds like a great idea to me.
