I kind of liked it last night in the 6th when he said that Upton would not dare steal due to the slippery footing. He went on and on about how the conditions took TB out of thier game. Almost on cue, BJ swipes the base.

Several years ago I finally got so tired of the constant chatter and comments that were off base that I muted the volume. I can't tell you the last time I heard announcers. It's a constant distraction away from what I observing and learning something from the game.

    vin

the beauty of vin scully is that so often he stops talking to allow you to hear the ballpark. no color guy, just vin. and i'm not even a dodger fan, but i love to hear vin call the game on my xm radio. its a shame he doesn't do their away games away from the left coast. he's an icon

this guy is so annoying. during any game with he and joe buck, i find myself in a 7 way bashing-tim-text conversation with my friends. we all dispise him as an analyst.

he was a serviceable big league catcher, at best, and i'm pretty sure that he thinks the fact that he caught Bob Gibson gives him some superpower.

like someone said earlier, he wants to analyze every play so that it sounds like he's making some extraordinary, life-altering baseball discovery. he ends up coming off as stupid and unintelligent. and the worst thing is that he's not new to the biz. he's been doing this for close to 20 years.

there are a couple people just a notch below on my "can't stand listening to" ladder. joe morgan, billy packer and eugene robinson (he does Carolina Panthers games on radio) are all pretty horrible in their own distinct way, but none are as bad as Timmy

There is a volume button on your TV. Listen to the radio.

Now that makes no sense. If we did that, we couldn't devote a thread to the ineptitude of sports announcers. Where would the fun be if we didn't have McCarver to pick on:astrosmiley2:

Seriously, I believe more and more people are doing that

I agree with you on this one. Here's a guy who's job is to talk and some days I'm not sure he's speaking English. Just listen to him and see if it sounds like he forgets the last two-three letters on the end of a word. "Best Game" comes out as "Bess Gay". You get the idea.

Has anyone seen ESPN 2 recently? They have this one guy that has a lisp. All his "S's" are pronounced as "sh". Here is a sample of one of his segments.

"The Philliesh are leading the Raysh in the World Sheries 3-1. Cole Hamelsh will be ready to pitch Game Sheven if needed.

This is (whatever's his name) with E'SH'PN.

But then it got better. I fell asleep in my chair watching the game. When I woke up, I turned the channel to espn to catch the final score.....low and behold they had a Richard Simmon's wannabe hosting the show. I was laughing so hard listening to him I thought it was Saturday Night Live that I turned to. I can't wait until they send him out to do some interviews. I hope his first one is with Mike Ditka. Now that I would pay to watch.
