No kidding. Lumberton formed its baseball booster club because of strong feeling that the School Booster Club was basically a football booster club with very little money handed to the other sports. Well, we just had a principal change and word came down that only the main booster club would be recognized to "protect donors" from being asked by multiple groups. So far, the baseball group has just kept on doing what it does, but I don't know how much longer that will last.

    We

started our own baseball booster club because the schools booster club spread the money out to all the athletic teams at the school. It did not matter if you worked any of the fundraisers or not everyone got their share. Basically it was peanuts. You dont need that. You dont need this. So we decided to heck with them let them give it to someone else. We started our own booster club to raise money that would go directly to the baseball program. Many people in the school booster club have complained ever since about this. The last time I went to a meeting I just said "We elect not to be on your wellfare plan." "Give it to someone else we will take care of ourselves."

The sad thing is the people that complain the most never do a darn thing to raise one penny. Never attend a single sports event. Quite honestly I could give a rats arse what any of them think anyway. If you want something go out and get it for yourself. I dont want to have to depend on someone else for what I need or want. And I sure as heck dont want to owe anyone anything.

I went out one year and got a 15,000 donation to regrade our infield basically we put in an entire new infield. The county wanted to know why the school did not get the money to distribute to all the sports teams equally. I made sure the work was done and the check was cashed before they knew what was going on. No thank you from anyone. Just a bunch of bs from guys in suits that wouldnt know a jock strap from a cheese sandwich. I will stop now because this is a sore topic for me.

Ragsdale is not allowed to have seperate booster clubs for each sport. baseball people did raise a lot of money through donations but then everyone got mad because baseball was getting lighted batting cages and such. said it was not fair to other programs. As throw22 says, kind socialistic. We're supposed to raise the money and re-distribute the funds.

    we have one booster club

for all sports. Baseball parents do the most work with football getting the largest share. So, basically we have parents that contribute to the baseball program in roundabout ways to protect the flow. Last year had a parent buy a roll of indoor/outdoor, glue and everything needed to carpet the batting cage out of his own pocket. Then three of us showed up on a Saturday morning to put it down...took all day with another trip to Lowe's for more glue, also out of his pocket. Oh yeah, his son was a senior and that was his last season there. I try to keep the consession stand stocked with snacks for games, those sales go to baseball/softball programs. I will admit though that the baseball program does get a fairly large contribution from the booster club every year.

i'm vp of the booster club at my daughters former hs, have been for seven years and she's been gone for three now. if it werent for the parents of former students, we wouldnt have a booster club. we're an inner city school and raise about 30k-50k on an average year. we try to distribute it to every sport, yeah, even cheerleading, ugh...... new rules next year, if your sport doesnt have an active member in the booster club, you wont get money from the booster club, which is why this is my last year, period.....

    Easy there slugger.

I know a girl that cheers in the SEC. She is considered a student athlete by her university. She has the same access to the facilities, trainers, physicians as any other athlete. Cheerleading is taken pretty seriously in the SEC.

I'm pretty sure the cheerleaders on her squad cheered somewhere in HS.

    Matching Funds?

I'm a MS AD and recently had a company offer to do a matching fund donation to our program. If you have compliants about HS budgets just imagine what we get at the MS. They are going to sponsor my pre-season bb jamboree and match want we raise that day. After the event the company wants us to write them a check and then they will match that and send us the grand total. My principal has been told this week by central office that we can not write this company a check. This is a national known company. We stand to lose about $1500 dollars if we can not work it out. Any one have any experience with these before?

    Coach & Plate Dad!

absolutely hit the nail on the head it is quite frankly absurd and yes it is the Admin @ the school level and the system level who is to blame! One school, one incident, @ a supposedly prestigious HS in C lotte moved me to end my coaching career after 15 successful years (no less a criminal for an AD).... Water under the bridge I guess but ultimately it is the kids to pay both literally and figuratively and what aare WE as lifelong educators and coaches to do????:apeani::apeani::apeani::apeani:
