First off, congrats to EB for taking care of business and hats off to Freedom for coming back in the second half.

    What was the announced attendance?

Can the Athletic directors of both schools not continue this awesome rivalry? I know the new conferences are set, but how about non-conference or endowment?

I think that they probably could continue with the tradition of Fat Friday, but I was at the game and it wasn't like what Fat Friday used to be. I mean there just weren't that many people there. I think Freedom having a down year had something to do with that and I think that is one reason the AD's from each school aren't going to continue the tradition, because it looks like it may be a couple of years before either of them are going to be at the level we are used to seeing them play at.

So what's up with it? Are they not going to play each anymore? Or will the game be earlier in the season?

    agree

I was also at the game and I have to agree it did not feel like a normal "Fat Friday". Not real sure why, but I think it was the number of Freedom fans there. The game would normaly fill the stands and have a couple of thousand standing not this year. Home side was full but not the other, this is Freedom's second year as a smaller school and I think people have moved on. It will happen at EB also. With no real meaning the rivialry will dwindle and new ones will form, there are high schools closer to Freedom and EB in our county now. It was a great armosphere though thousands of people with most of the games really close. I graduated EB in 87 and we won at Freedom by three with several overtimes needed (1986). What great menories.

Not just Fat Friday, Freedom decided to end the PowderPuff series with East Burke, so EB had to create a new game with students vs. faculty.

Sad..... The entire Fat Friday week was awesome (pep rallies, powder puff, luncheon, Thin Thursday JV Game, Fat Friday game)....

    Sad to say.....

The same thing has happened between Newton-Conover and Maiden a few years back. The game used to be late in the year and Always came down to conf. champ. Maiden went to 1A for a while and the game was moved to the start of the year with little importance. Last year in the playoffs, it was standing room only. This year, Maiden wasn't winning yet....you guessed it, not many fans. You could sit and count the fans. At least NC will keep playing EB for a while longer. I love my "Family" rivalry that has been going on since the mid 80's.
