I read TBR on a daily basis and read this off of the Chatham County's Schools website. I thought I would share it with the forum members on this board.

BTW, I enjoy reading TBR think it is a great informative site.

Cha cha, wondered if you or Earl knew this girl?

Fallen Friend Remembered by the Northwood Softball Team

Friendships that last a lifetime and life-changing lessons are often learned in school. Some are fun while others are sobering ones that are still able to make a positive impact on many. The Northwood Charger softball team had one such experience recently.

Kristy Mae Edwards, a student and softball player at Eastern Alamance High School, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 15. The tragic news of her death spread quickly to four of her former travel ball teammates who had played with Edwards for the North Carolina Rockers. Northwood softball coach Harvey Skinner noticed that some of his players seemed distraught at their Tuesday night game. Learning of what had happened to Edwards, he had Rocker royal blue ribbons ordered to be worn by all of the Northwood softball players during the next night’s game in support of his players and in memory of Edwards. She was remembered before the game with a short speech and a moment of silence.

Amazingly, Northwood scored twenty-nine runs that night, Edwards’ birth date and jersey number. A donation is also being made by the Northwood softball team to support the Kristy Edwards Softball Fund at Eastern Alamance.

Edwards’ former teammates attended her wake in Mebane. They gave a softball signed by the entire Northwood Charger team to the Edwards family. On the day of Edwards’ funeral, each of the girls retrieved her Rocker uniform and wore it to school along with a ribbon in memory of Kristy.

No, I didn't know Kristy, but we did hear about it. She played for Eastern Alamance and I believe the connection to the Northwood players was through travel ball.

    Great story reelturner!

The story still brings tears to the eyes of those that didn't even know Kristy, but the 29 runs being scored and coinciding with her day of birth & jersey number just gives you chills!

    Believe

If you believe in God and Angels, and all that is good, U know why it happened. I know from what you have written you do believe, this is for others that may not have that feeling.

This young lady is playing softball on the most beautiful field ever! Prayers and thoughts go out to family and friends of this young lady from the Lady Blues family.

I don't know you, Brooke, and I didn't know Kristy, but thank you so much for your post. I'm a grown man but your post has brought tears to my eyes. You both sound like wonderful girls. I'm sorry Kristy is not here but as long as you remember her and tell your story she will always be with us in spirit. You were very fortunate to have a friend like her and she was very fortunate to have a friend like you. Take care.

Hey Brooke, this is Padgett's Dad. For you other folks, my daughter, Padgett, is one of the Northwood players who played on the NC Rockers with Kristy. She still wears a rubber band on her wrist with Kristy's name and other stuff written on it. When one breaks she makes another.
The Rockers won some games and lost some games. But in the end, what these girls really achieved was the blessing of friendship that will last a life time, no matter how long or how short it may be.
