....Wow!, now I've just read the 2nd most ignorant post ever!
Look Kanwj, let me get this straight, are you saying that parents don't want their DDs to play softball because they, the parents fear lesbianism?
If thats your perception, then good luck living in the real world.
Ok, all softball players become married to other women, all jewish girls sell diamonds, all black girls will be on welfare, all rock starts will die of overdoses, all preachers DDs...nevermind, all teenagers who drive cars with bling are drug dealers, all kids who wear camo or a john deere hat are racists, ...........................C'Mon, get real.:SPcheer006cheerbril:SPcheer006cheerbril

No, many of you are condemning me. What I am saying that the way others look at certain womens sports. Many of you are throwing the stone at me. My daughter has had kids say to her they were surprize she is straight. They thought the girls on the team were all lesbians. Don't cast your stones at me. What I am talking about is the many other people look at certain sports. I love softball. Some of my daughter's heros are the softball players who may live these lifestyles. As long as they are good people I don't care. What I am saying is people outsie softball or basketball question these sports and may perfer what they believe to be more lady like activities.:10_6_4:

...OK Kan, first off peace to you and your family and best wishes to ya to have great holliday season. 2nd, putting your foot in your mouth on delicate subjects as you have will get you no where but trouble, trust 'ol marlin because I've got a big mouth and every bit a foot to go in it.
Seems to me that you were not condemning any lifestyle, but just stating, as you say it, what your DD has heard in school. As a parent and an adult, I'd like to think that all of us would quell rumors such as these, and let our kids grow up learning about all things.
Lets say you would like to be an artist, and as hard as you try to paint portraits, they suck. Well you were not born with artistic genes. No slander. But you went to every school available to be an artist, and as hard as the other artist tried to make you an artist, could you become one?
    Hope I've made my point.
    Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Fish.

Thanks Marlin, My thought is really about what many people want to sell on their campuses. Cheerleading is an easier sell than (OK get ready ) a real sport!

i've kept quite on this subject, just reading and laughing....

    here's my take:

i've coached girls softball for many years, rec, travel and hs. by my count, 150 girls is a low estimate. how many chose alternate life styles openly???
three. i know a butt load of female college coaches, and i know for a fact that most people hang the title of lesbian on a female college coach before they get to know her...i have a kid who i am very close to in college, i asked her what the ratio was of "straight" to "alternate" and she said it was about 7 straight to one alternate.

look, "alternate lifestyles" are in every aspect of our life. does softball have more than any other sport???? no. do we as parents worry about this when our child plays softball??? yes, everyone does. but this should not be a determining factor when you consider what sport you want your daughter to play. as far as cheerleading, hate to tell you, but i know more girls who chose alternate lifestyles that cheered, than softball players.

right or wrong, everyone has the right to chose what road they go down. no one in their right mind would chose to not fund a sport because of this, due to the current moral/free right to choose issues our country supports. it still is a matter of money and what sport seems more appropriate to that particular school.

i knew that this issue existed in softball when my daughter chose to play, but i trusted the upbringing my wife and i had given her to chose the right path, as we saw it, as should every parent. but still, in my opinion, if she had chosen to veer off this path, she still would be my daughter and i would accept that choice. ( i wouldnt like it, but i would learn to live with it).

so lets get back on track and continue to discuss the topic of this thread and leave the "alternate lifestyles" issue alone....

Very good post Cheeze. I would love continue but to many want to turn this into something other than my real meaning. I now fear with the economic of our world many of our sports with be the first to be hurt. With sports like softball not being revenus producing we will be first to not grow. I have never been to the stadium at UNC. Their website shows a drawing for the facility. Has it ever been built?
