Excellent! That is one brave girl!!

Though not as talented as that girl my daughter decided not to play softball at the college level. I didn't find out until a year or so later that she was concerned about disappointing me. It really didn't disappoint me and this May she will be receiving her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from ECU number 2 in her class.

Parents need to be extra observant when it comes to their athletes because there is usually nothing they won't do to please their parents. But for the ones who truly have a passion for the game it is great to have their parents' support!

Elena Delle Donne is truly a champion! Maybe even a level above a champion!!

I agree. My wife and I saw this when it aired on Outside The Lines and it made us both think about all the work our DD puts into softball. She always seems to love the game and the extra work required as a pitcher, but so did this girl with basketball.
So, I actually had my DD watch this online earlier this week and told her if she ever felt this way about the game of softball to never be afraid to let us know immediately. She knows I love the game but her happiness far out weighs the game.

I must give credit that I copied it off of one of the other boards. Eastof Raleigh had posted it. I thought it was excellent.

My wife and I frequently have discussions about not burning out our youngest daughter. We openly ask her is she is tired of playing. We really try to watch the coach and teammates and each situation we put her in. We have ask her if she wants to take time off. Last year after four years of tournament softball she took some time off. She went and played flag football. It was a very good choice for her. We found a new softball team in January and she had a great time last summer. Things happened with them in the fall so now we will move to another team. We have will miss the people we got to know last summer, but she will be playing up and closer to home. Hopefully we can keep her from burning out.
We have learned to look at each team and sport as learning opportunities. You learn something new from each coach. Changing venues also we hopefully brings a new atmosphere to the game. We don't want to be know as team hoppers. We try to stay as long as she is happy and we complete the commitment. We are also able to meet new people and make new friends for her and us.
When she tells us she is tired of playing, it may break our heart, but as long as she is moving to something positive we will support her.
