No....I think there is a lot of merit to your post. However, the standards to play HS sports are not difficult to obtain. One would have to have a willingness not to compete in the classroom or there are special circumstances that causes a student to "give up" that results in poor grades. It's those special circumstance kids that a coach can intervene and make a huge difference.

I don't believe we should change the student eligibility requirements, but I like the fact that some students are identified as "potential" and are given guidance and meaningful help to be successful. Not every kid has a support system at home and they may need an outside source to help motivate them. But the motivation should result in achieving a goal and school progress needs to be one of them.

What to change in HS baseball?

    Fire ALL and future Umpires!

They always are not right. Never.

So get rid of all of the current ones. Hire new ones and fire them even before they start. This way we will always get what we want.

    Oh yeah.

Cancel all other sports as they interfere to much with the only year round sport. Baseball.

    1) I would like to see the use of wood bats implemented- and the removal of aluminum rocket launchers. The aluminum rocket launchers distort - and make a mockery - of the game IMO.

    2) I would like to see the removal of abusive fans enforced. Either removal - or the provision of a system whereby they would be given a good old fashioned beating for their insane behavior.

Those are really the only 2 I could think of after watching baseball here the last 5 years.

    A few things...

    1. Kids walking to the plate wearing a pair of batting gloves and also have a pair of batting gloves in their back pocket. If that is the case then a automatic count of 0-2 should be given to the batter. It looks stupid no matter how cool you think you look.

    2. Wood bats. The use of metal bats should be banned for HS/college and it also gives college coaches and major league scouts an idea of how good a player is at the plate.

    3. Arm bands. Any player wearing more than 2 arm bands should have to run 5 miles for every arm band. Nobody cares how good you think you look or the fact you wear 4 arm bands on one arm because you can't field a groundball and the arm bands keep you from looking like Roger Dorn from the movie "Major League."

    4. Hustle. Any kid not hustling should be taken out of the game and benched for the next game. Scouts notice hustle and player's thinking that they can show boat don't belong on the field.

    5. Bench a player for talking down to another player. I don't care what situation it was, no player is trying to make an error or mistake and any player cussing them out for it should be benched and if it happens again then automatically kicked off the team.

    6. Switch football and baseball season. This provide for college coaches for both sports to come and see players in the college off-season. I feel that it would also be good so that summer is a way to get your body and mind right for the HS baseball season.

    7. Wearing the hat the way it should be worn. The bill is made for protecting your eyes from the sun, not the back of your neck or either ear. Any player not wearing it like it should be worn should be thrown out for that game, yea sounds harsh but respect the game.

    8. Grades. No matter how good you think you are without grades your not going anywhere. Coaches and AD's need to communicate with teachers to make sure each player grades are in top form.

WOW! things heated up here quick!

to inject a little humor, which so happens to relate to "the abusive fan" comment above, I want to share something I read on a college baseball board... the thread was about toughest college venues for visiting teams. One in particular made me laugh out loud (lol as the kids say)... a poster, probably a former player, said that one time at South Carolina a "fan" cussed him out through the fence. What made it funny was the fan had no arms or legs and his buddy had to hold him up to the fence so the dude could do his cussing! The visual of this still makes me chuckle!

    No

G-Man the guy actually had arms and legs. What happened was USC was playing UNC. I made the trip down for the game and it was very cold. My good friend was with me and he bundled up for the cold weather. In fact he had so many extra layers on it just looked like he had no arms and legs. He got upset at a call so I had to pick him up so he could see over the fence to cuss out the player. If you don't believe me you can ask Stretchy since he is the guy I am talking about!

I need more proof... if it was Stretchy you were holding up then I know there are some medical bills for the back injury you must have suffered. First, the Stretched One ain't no light weight and second, if you had to hold him up to talk, even if it was just a cussin', then I know for a fact you would have been holding him up for a loooong time! The man knows how to talk!

He's been kinda quiet lately... hmmm... that's scarey... must be workin' on something big like the "First Annual All Stretchy World Series Baseball/Mud Wrassling/Chicken Wing Eatin' Showcase".
