    game within the game

You miss understood what I am talking about... I'm glad your DD had success when she got the new bat, but the success came from handling the emotion during those moments of competition..

Hitting the ball off a tee vs live in a game is the whole point... Bat has nothing to do with it....the swing is developed in practice.... the real training happens when you step in the box, facing live pitching. (who by the way, has not proved nothing throwing drop balls to daddy sitting on a bucket). This is the competition within the game.

This is where all your fears and all your hard work comes to fruition.
The bat is hardware, a component of the swing, that can enhance the effect of the actual striking of the ball. Handle the mechanics and the emotion, and your opportunity for success is high. Fail in either, and so does your success rate. Same goes for the pitcher...

Are some bats better than others... certainly.....
Just like some batters are better than others... some pitchers are better than others... etc..
Does the hot new bat guarantee success... no, but it can be a confidence booster.... if you handle the emotion...
Chuck Prior will be the first to teach to handle the emotion. Sounds like he has done a great job... Congrats on your DD's success
Stats are a result of playing the game.
No one ever batted .500 in practice... practice and training prepare you for the opportunity within the game.

    Have a great season

    Thanks for the plug WNDMILLR,
I agree , the bat is just hardware. Most highend bats perform very well. In my opinion, it is more important that the bat length and weight be appropriate for the batters strength and mechanics. For example: my DD swings a mens slowpitch Miken Freak 34 / 27. Some would consider that bat too heavy for FP softball. She has no trouble getting it through the zone with control.

    Exactly right!

You're exactly right! My DD loves her purple Stealth but it's not just the bat, it's the confidence within and positive attitude that put her in the top ten of Union County's RBIs and batting avg last year. Using a bat she thought would help her get the job done gave her the confidence to use her skills and do the job.

softballphreak, I got a call from my dd early this am. She wanted me to pass along a message to you.
She says she works her butt off in the weight room to be able to swing that heavy bat. Why settle for a 200ft shot when you can hit it 250.:bomb:
She says the weight of the bat is relative, If she can handle 27 oz like someone else handles a 24oz,why not use it. I guess the bottom line here is , she swings the bat cause she can ! Go Gamecocks #24

She said she wants you to throw her some BP this summer without a net.
With that being said, You know how I feel about this. I think a batter should swing the heaveist bat that she can get through the zone smoothly, with good mechanics.

    saw the movie

I saw that bat work this past summer....

Runners ahead of her were trying to take 2nd on bunts, just to get out of the kill zone of that lefty swing....

Glad she was on my team..

Hey, my reaction time resulted in a broken nose last year throwing tennis balls so I respectfully decline to pitch to #24. Not even with a net!!

But for the vast majority of players I think a 27 oz. bat is too heavy. I believe it is better to err on the side of lighter.

But I was wrong once--the time I thought I was wrong but wasn't.
