2) Who is the POY? Jeff Newell if Watauga's success continues. Senior on a squad of 6 sophomores and juniors who all played JV last year, a junior who didn't play last year, 2 seniors who didn't play last year, and 2 senior role players who didn't start last year (one of whom is now out for the season).

5) Who is your suprize team so far? Watauga High School. 4-2 halfway through the season having upset (in everybody's minds but their own) Alexander Central on the road and East Burke at home. They won't be a surprise the second half, so here comes the final exam.

6) What was the best team match up you have seen so far? Watauga at Alexander Central double overtime 1/16/09.

7) What was the best player match up you have seen so far? Newell (31 pts) and Shuffler (29 pts) when WHS beat EB in Boone 1/13/09.

8) Who is your best 3 point shooter? No one on WHS. This is not the year of the 3-pointer in NW4A. Best any conference team has shot against WHS this year is 36%. Now, Ashe County was impressive--57% for the game (11 for 19).

9) Who is your team that no one should take lightly? WHS.

10) Where are the best fans? WHS -- check out the student outfits in the first row, the contact Twister game at halftime, the kids dancing. WHS is winning again and town is enjoying it.

 

im guessing you're a watauga fan. but no disrespect to them, but AC played horrible and still should have won the game. i expect them to dominate when they travel to boone. big loss tho. hurts their chance to win conference big time.

 

the game i seen at waatuga and acr watauga lead the whole game now was it a 20 point game the whole game no but,watauga beat them and never no doubt about the game.lets not get to far ahead of ourselfs watauga is a very young team, we still dont know what team will show up night after night,but if we play like we have the last three games we be right there at the top.

 

you know im talkin about the cougars right ? not acr. but anyways, the league is down from last year. freedom is the best team right now. ac needs to get back to playin their style of basketball.

 

I guess the intensity that Watauga came out with had nothing to do with how "terrible" AC played?

Great game to watch. Both teams battled and battled. Can't wait to see the rematch. These two teams always play great games against each other.

 

I have new opinions now that WHS is done with the first half of our year.

1) Who is on your All NW4W Team?
Cody Shuffler- EBHS
Ethan Kincaid- FHS
Ryan Hargrave-ACHS
Jeff Newell- WHS
Daniel Rauscher- ACHS
Sam Ford- FHS

2) Who is the POY? Ethan Kincaid FHS or Jeff Newell WHS (Jeff is basically setting the tempo and leading a young WHS team to a 2nd place showing in the league.)

3) Who is your COY? Rob Sanders- What Rob and his staff done with this bunch is wonderful. The team is young. Only lots of Sophomore and new varsity kids playing big minutes. 2 of the seniors didn't play last year. To be able to bring them all together and play this well is awesome. Imagine how dangerous this team can be in the future with the youth developing.

4) Who is your best sixth man? Damian Edwards- Sophomore who plays great defense, good hands and can shoot the 3 ball

5) Who is your surprise team so far? WHS

6) What was the best team match up you have seen so far? ACHS vs WHS in double OT in Taylorsville- both teams IMO are pretty good and WHS gritted out a good win on the road.

7) What was the best player match up you have seen so far? Jeff Newell vs Ryan Hargrave or Jeff vs Shuffle

8) Who is your best 3 point shooter? Ethan Kincaid or Sam Ford FHS

9) Who is your team that no one should take lightly? McDowell

10) Where are the best fans? Alexander Central (You shouldn't vote for your own school in this one)

 

im not sayin watauga didnt play hard. but ac just made unforced errors. too many costly mistakes. turnovers at the worst times. just poor decisions.

 

Does AC really have the best fans? No offense, but they didn't impress me that much when we played them...but that's only 2 games..

Does AC have the best fans? Maybe not to you, however their mens Basketball Team made a believer out of you, twice. My bad 2A -vs- 4A doesn't account for anything.
