Need some good drills to help my 16 year old son to increase his speed. Currently at a 7.6 aiming for 7.2 or better if possible.

A great way to increase 60 time is to make sure he has good running technique. Make sure he is running parallel and not side to side.

For drills it is a good idea to do box steps, ladder drills, and simply jumping rope can help. Just get those fast twitch muscles working hard and fast.

This sounds crazy, but if he runs with his thumbs pointed up and his fingers straight, the body somehow lines itself up and your form improves. My brother in law is a strength coach for the Panthers and he told me this, but it made a difference with my son.

Plyometrics, dot and ladder drills, form running, all can help. The key is to work hard to develop that speed.

drop him off in a neighborhood with a mean dog... that will make him faster!

Some of this stuff has already been covered.

Plyometrics, box jumps, weight-training, and sprint drills. This site has some good stuff.http://www.completespeedtraining.com/.

Improving your form alone will bring great results.

When it comes to running alot of people make the mistake in thinking that running long distance will make them faster. To increase your speed, run sprints with enough downtime to have a near-full recovery. (About 1-2 minutes for a 60 yarder(.

Squats and deadlifts are both great for speed development.

That stuff is legit. You don't want to tense up. Don't clench your fists and don't grit your teeth. Keep'em loose. Watch olympic sprinters and their jaws just kinda hag.
