In the Raleigh area Stephon McQueen over at Grand Slam runs a great speed, agility, power program. I can't do it justice with a description; you have to see it for yourself (and then I'd observe more than once). Probably the best thing to do there is catch one of the participants after a workout and ask them what they think.

And it's definitely not limited to just the physical. Stephon stresses character. What I've heard him teaching is worth the cost of the session, not to mention the physical conditioning.

My only regret is not being in charge of a team and requiring them to attend. The only explanation I can see is that players are just not aware of the benefits.

    FYI

Just for clarification... Mickey Bolick has nothing at all to do with the running of the Dungeon. He schedules individual softball pitching lessons there only.

Is this Steven McQueen the same guy that worked with the NC Challengers softball teams back about 2-3 yrs ago?? If he is, then wasn't he also a retired military veteran??

    Just wondering,

No. Stephon was a defensive back at Carolina. Played with Julius Peppers, et al.

He is the strength and conditioning coach at Ravenscroft. One of his athletes there is a men's bb signee at Duke.

From what I've heard he has been very active in programs designed to help at-risk kids.

He's very knowledgeable on strength and conditioning but will tell you quickly there's too much to know to stop learning.

Stephon played for Mac Brown at UNC, along with Peppers..etc.
He played for the Carolina Panthers a few years and in the Canadian Football League. As Phreak stats, he is on staff at Ravenscroft....

He currently works out about 100 athletes a week at Grand Slam. Everyone from middle school kids, to High School, College, as well as adult classes for weight loss, strength and health. He is also working one on ones with 2-3 kids that are projected to go in the 1st -2nd round of the NFL draft this summer. Last summer, he worked 4 weeks with the University of Texas softball team, on speed and strength training. Presently, it's a who's who of NC Softball working out with him. Lady Blues, Challengers, Wildcats, CF Storm, as well as several college programs.
They will be ready when they hit the field. The softball programs have really bought into his commitment to training and team building.. He builds the body and mind.. and takes no prisoners, any one in the group gets lazy, everyone starts over..

His foundation, Body and Soul, reaches out to kids and uses sports and the structure that it provides, to re-shape lives as he re-shapes bodies...

If you are in the Triangle, and have not been there to see it... where you been?

    Your thoughts!!!!!!!

Everyone has an opinion! I thought this forum was to share good information on how to help develop young ladies in the sport. It seems as though you may have a problem with Mr Bolick, why do you hide behind a screen name to take cheap shots at the man. Air your dirty laundry out with him personally. This thread was started because of a good program that has helped both young ladies as well as young men rise to another level in the sport.
