He is certainly inspiring, but what makes him unique is he is such a great kid....and would make a helluva coach. Every member on the team look up to Will, not because of his battle of his illness, but the examples he sets. He lives and breathes Watauga baseball and he does so because of his passion for the sport.

What allows him to battle this disease is his understanding of what role he plays on the Watauga baseball team. He knows that his teammates and coach love him....and need him. He is simply the driving force and example setter for other teammates to follow. They know there is no reason to complain about anything because Will doesn't.

But here is why I love to be around the young man. He has such a great sense of humor. I always needle him when I see him, but guess what? He needles me right back. We will discuss the battles he goes through, but what he really wants to talk about is baseball and what he can do to make the team better.

If you get a chance to talk to Will, kid with him. Give him a hard time about how he has out-punted his coverage with his girlfriend (she's beautiful). What he really wants, in any relationship, is not for people to feel sorry for him, but to treat him like you would treat any other kid that plays baseball. Cheer for him when he pitches. Yell at the ump for squeezing his strike zone...and pat him on the back for a job well done.

There are a lot of things that make Will special, but the number one reason is he is a son that you wish was your own. He has the ability to make you feel good, despite the pain he obviously has. He doesn't want anybody to feel sorry for him because he doesn't. He just wants to be treated like any other kid...

But, if you are looking for a weakness, here it is: He bleeds Pioneer blue. So WATCH OUT!!! If you are going to talk with him, don't be surprised that when you leave, you will become a Watauga Pioneer fan.

Well, I'll be there to help you with your pitch selection---I've got 18 of them in my repertoire; many of them I learned this morning. So they're perfected!

See ya up there, buddy! Save my a suite with a heater.

I don't know Will either, but have been thinking and praying for this young man since back before Christmas.
This is what I asked God to give me for Christmas!
Will coming back to pitch this year!
Thanks for letting me know that i now have my Christmas present.
