Just saw the list of players on my son's middle school team. When do daddy ball and politics ever end in sports? There were a couple of kids on the team that wouldn't make a bad travel ball team, but there they were.

Why hold tryouts if you don't take the top 14 or so from tryouts and put them on the team?

My son is on the team, but it is sad for some of the other players I thought really worked hard and belonged on the team to miss out on this because they are not part of the "in" crowd.

Hopefully, they will get theirs when they try out for high school ball.

Same issue at our middle school. I have one in middle school and we mutually decided that the best thing for him was to concentrate on playing where he will get better. Not at the middle school where daddy ball is alive and well.

It is too bad because these kids would like to be part of their school teams and yet the best players don't always get the chance. The fact remains, however, that ALL the kids know. They know who the players are and they know the reasons they are on or not on the team.

We are just teaching kids that you don't earn your way in life it is handed to you. It is kind of like trophies for participation. Don't get use to it---it doesn't last.

    How can I tell?????

Ears got warm. Simple rule is in Forsyth this is not real middle school ball never has been since they started it back. These teams are not supported in anyway though the school system. Parent ball. So you get what you get. If I recall they started this about 5 years ago. It was pushed though one of the local little leagues. I also recall that players could be from different schools. No worries. Let your kid work some where in travelball or other leagues. Get them ready for the HS level. See if the HS coach has any summer workouts or camps. Let you kid earn it for themselves. Support the team not the player or coach. Everything will work out.

True that politics are for life but politics in baseball don't end at high school age.

    it will always be..

this way as long as the little leagues get to have control over the coaching and the venue.. Never happened on an allstar team has it... guess why Travel ball and Showcase got started and has flurished. NWFALL, WSNLL, and SWFLL are in control of Forsyth Middle school ball so get use to it..

Haha...doesn't end in college baseball either. Ted Turner had a player promoted to the parent club because it made it easier for Ted to party with the guy

    Our original goal.....

As one of the original little league presidents who helped develop the program - i feel it necessary to do some clarification. Forsyth county has never had nor supported a middle school baseball program while surrounding counties such as Guilford and Surry had programs that were thriving. When this program was originally developed; USSSA was really just coming into it's own. The program was originally pitched to the school system costing them zero dollars, but they turned the program down. Forsyth County Parks and Recreation agreed to support and headline our middle school program. The first year, we sponsored 10 teams with 14 players each - giving many kids an additional opportunity to play. The little leagues volunteered their fields; their time, and we attempted to recruit the best coaches possible that woud be able to coach at 4pm 4 days a week. That year, Ledford also wanted to join the group, and brought a team as well. Last year, i attended several middle school games that were played at the local high school, giving the kids and opportunity to play on their upcoming high school field - I cannot speak for today's program- but our original intention was to give 7th and 8th grade players a chance to play together on their way to high school. I encourage those who have issues with a program volunteer their time to make the program better. Not one of us got paid...... we did it for the love of the game.
