    Our 1st day....

Well, we had 11 show up and 2 more playing basketball. 3 look like they have never played a day in their life, but listened well and tried very hard. They asked the girls to talk with their friends to come out and try to have a jv also. Sadly enough, the ones we do have should be better than last year.

My freshman DD went off to school this morning nervous. After all of the tough travel ball tournaments and big games she's played in over the past 6 years......she was nervous about school ball try outs :stunned:

Guess that goes to show you what it means for some of these kids to want to make the team and represent their school.

She came home today in good spirits so she must have thought she did okay.

this was an interesting first day for me at my hs. for the first time in seven years, we will not field a jv team. we had 18 girls come out for softball and we decided that we will not cut anyone, we will carry 15 and have three as player/managers.

now, when we end our season, we hope that our girls will play tb and come back to us improved. this isnt always the case. but this year, i want to greatly thank the tb coaches and teams that my four tb players played for. these kids came back so much more improved that i actually kinda had tears in my eyes.

so, you see, some of us hs coaches really do appreciate what the tb coaches do for our girls in hs.

First things first, man it got cold as the evening wore on, anyway, at South Caldwell we had 24 for tryouts with 7 more on the varsity Basketball team who is playing East Burke tonight, as of this time no decisions have been made of the numbers to keep, on the jv's or the varsity.
We have almost all the girls that we will keep played TB over the summer, and the ladies that are not on the BB team have worked very hard since the start of school.
Hopefully all that work translates to numbers in the win column
Good luck to all the ladies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Representing Your School

You are right about representing your school. Heard several girls here say they were excited, maybe a little nervous and they have played thousands of travel ball games. It was good to see the softballs flyin around the park again.

for those of you who are moving from playing good quality travel ball to HS or even middle school sports a bit of advice....

take a deep breath, take it all in, let it develop, realize its different than TB, expect the unexpected, be patient, and believe that the cream will rise to the top.

there some quality HS programs out there who do it the right way and there are some who are, shall we say, lacking.

any of the other veterans add to the list?

We had fifteen out yesterday with five still cheering or playing basketball, six of my girls played a good bit last year and the rest, well, lets just say that they are going to be a work in progress. The hint there was, is due to the fact that the first five min or so I had to show a couple of girls how to put a glove on. I only have one that may be asked to be a manager for her own safetys sake.
