was a bit cold in the am, but warmed up nicely. saw a bunch of old friends including Ron and Hugh from the maiden team. Most impressing thing was the transfer pitcher who nows plays for Gaston Christian, dont know her name, but we faced her in our first game and this young lady can bring some smoke. it was excellent for us to face this kind of pitching, we learned we can hit it once we get our timing, but what impressed me even more was that they moved her to ss and her arm just kinda blew me away, flat awesome this girl is. maybe greg christopher from GC will give us her name. Shelby has made some massive improvements and has a freshman pitcher that will be awesome when she gets some games under her belt...best laugh of the day and most memoriable moment was when Becky Smith (26yr old nurse) pitched for her mothers team due to lack of pitcher, and bought back some fond memories of when she pitched for East Gaston...she had a darn fine changeup then and its still deadly now.....I enjoyed seeing Becky and it doesnt look like she just had a baby a bit ago, but she says it true. (tried to get my 21yr old dd to pitch against her for old times sake, but she wouldnt have anything to do with it, said it was too cold

Cherryville looked good, Maiden looked like it had some possibilities as usual.

all in all, had a great time and saw some awesome plays today, and lots of rust also....

didnt see enought of cherryville, bessemer city, north gaston or south point to make any kinda of conclusion, most, like us, didnt have all of their players, our entire outfield and top catcher are still playing basketball...

Cheeze....good to see you and the other gaston co. teams at BC scrimmages. The transfer pitcher you mentioned is Caitlyn Campbell. She transfered from Northside Christian. FYI, they were the 2A Private School Champs '08. Last year she went 15-0 as a freshman. We're happy she moved across the creek to Gaston Christian!

I heard that Shelby "won" a scrimmage against Maiden.

I know it doesn't matter but seems to be a confidence boost to the Shelby girls. I know they deserve some positives as they finished out the second half of last season on a positive note.

    How did they look?

the young freshman pitcher threw the ball pretty consistant, i think she only walked one or two. the infield was strong at third and ss. they covered bunts pretty well also. we were throwing 55-57 heat at them, and the top four could get their bats on it, but after that it was k, k, k, etc...outfield????? center had a good arm and thats all i will say about that. catcher needed to throw on steals more, needs to get some confidence with her arm, she has a decient arm for throwing down to second...in 55 minutes, we hit five doubles and four singles and bunted one on.

i didnt see them beat maiden, but i know the coaches from maiden were not concerned about winning, they were doing a lot of experimenting on positions open from last year. they have the same problem that a lot of us are having this year, limited number of girls coming out for softball. we had only 16 girls come out and i believe maiden had less than that.

    Great info Cheese! Thanks!

One of those catchers is a freshman. They have a lot of young talent, I hope they can put it all together!
