Congratulations to Alexander Central on a very successful season and good luck to Ryan Hargrave on his future endeavors.

FYI: While the subject of officiating is being discussed, just remember the guys who usually call games in Gaston County are handled by the same booking agent that does most the NW4A assignments.

Also congrats to Freedom on the 2nd half comeback...Myers Park will be good test on Friday. I would bet money that if there is a double-header at Freedom, you'll most like receive a visit from a certain preps sports writer/columnist...

    officials

Friday nights game at Freedom will have neutral officials. More than likely the crew will be from Winston Salem area.

were you at the game interestedonlooker ? that was the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. Don't tell me refs havent effected outcomes because they have. It's a shame. We still had our chances, but we wouldn't have even been in that situation if simple over the back calls and pushoffs were called on east gaston. The home team got all the calls, like it usually works in high school basketball. But what an outstanding year to Coach Wills and all his players. They gave their hardest every night. Ryan is a great player and I hope he has a very successful future. But don't forget Billy, Kendele, and Dock too. They were a very big part of AC's success as well. They will be greatly missed next year. Congrats on a great year.

Good luck to Freedom. Represent the NW4A conference well.

I was there, I was also at the conference championship when our fans booed the Freedom team at the awards and were yelling that the refs should get a trophy also.....fact is our (not all but many) are ignorant about the rules of the game and think everything that happens should be called.

    High School officials have

gotten worse the last few years, not enough young people taking the place of veteran officials, so instead, bad J.V. officials who wouldn't normally get promoted to varsity, do. I don't feel officials lean one way or the other, usually they're bad for both teams or a veteran official will have to carry two poor officials. Home court doesn't matter.

Congrats to Alexander Central on a great year. I didn't get a chance to go to the game but I'm sure they feel down about a tough loss. My understanding is that turnovers played a major role. 22 wins is a school record and they beat some very good teams like Freedom and Hickory along the way.

i know the game of basketball. no, you can't call everything. but if you call fouls on one end for pushing off, you have to call it on the other team. don't tell me home court doesn't matter. it does. it shows up more in playoffs than in the regular season. all 3 of the refs weren't bad. it was just one. and he blew every call he made in the 2nd half. yes turnovers were key, but when you're getting hassled and slapped, it's hard not to turn the ball over. how does the team that plays more agressive on the glass by going after every rebound end up with 3 fouls and AC, who we know doesn't send everyone to the boards end up with 9 fouls ? it's over and there's nothing we can do about it. But the point I'm trying to get across, is AC was the better team. Easily. But still a great season and Coach Wills has really turned the basketball program around. Everyone waits around for softball season and they get most of the attention, but in my opinion that man needs some respect. He is one of the best basketball coaches to ever come through Alexander County. Outmatched talent-wise and athleticism almost every game, Wills gets his kids ready for every game. He truly knows the game of basketball.

Im sorry but refs can cause a team a game...even though we did have our chance and dicnt captialize and i wouldnt go as far as saying most fans are ignorant..thats an ignorant statement to say that....but thats all ill say...and the fans booed because there passionate about there team and when they lose you feel emotional..BUTTT What a great year for AC.Ryan was one of the best players to EVER play at AC and he'll have a great career..dont forget the toher seniors though like jmundy said they all started and had a great year...one of the best in school history if im not mistaken Coach Wills has nearly 40 wins the last 2 seasons thats an incredible job of coaching. He always gets the best out of his players. I played for him and he made me 10 times better then i ever thought about being...i knwo one thing our basketball program isnt taken lightly anymore...it was a great yera an i iknow imma miss watching the games...
