There are 2 outs , runners on 1st , and second... batter hits ball to second baseman, second baseman attempts to touch runner coming from first as runner on third goes home. Runner going to second avoids tag ,and runner at third scores, but runner going to second falls, and defense player throws to second for force. Does run count ??

Force play in place = no score.

No, if the third out is recorded by a force (or by putting out the Batter-Runner before she reaches first), the run does not count.

Where this gets really ugly is if the runner reaches second, then retreated off second back towards first, reinstating the force.

Throw the ball to 1st base!

Should have threw the ball to 1st to begin with, inning over!

this exact scenario is one of the most infamous plays in the history of baseball. In 1908 Fred Merkle failed to touch second after a game winning hit scored the winning run... much confusion ensued but the ruling was he never got to second and was in fact forced but they ordered the game replayed and the Giants lost the pennant to the Cubs the following day.

ps: Yes I look old but I wasn't in attendance!
