    I created "Around the Prep Diamonds" on charlotteobserver.com, to recognize standout baseball and softball performances. Please urge coaches and/or scorekeepers to let me know worthy nominees.
    My goal is to get deserving players' names in the paper and online. Ideas are always welcome.

    Around the prep diamonds......

    Top baseball and softball performers:

    BASEBALL
    ■ Cherryville’s Chase Scott and Cory Parks combined to pitch a perfect game in a 2-0 victory against Gastonia Highland.
    Scott pitched five innings and struck out eight to earn the victory. Parks struck out five in the final two innings to get the save.

    ■ Hickory Grove’s Kyle Galloway had amazing hitting games on consecutive days.
    He was 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs in an 11-3 victory against Charlotte Latin on Monday. Galloway had two home runs and five RBIs in a 14-8 victory against SouthLake Christian on Tuesday.
    His two- day totals: 6-for-8, four home runs and 11 RBIs.

    Matthew Culbertson, Ryan Cliff and Slater Erwin also hit home runs for Hickory Grove on Tuesday.

    ■ Cody Still pitched a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts in Grace Academy’s 22-0 victory in four innings against United Faith.

    ■ Mallard Creek’s Carlos Aponte was 4-for-4 with three RBIs in a 6-5 victory against Concord Robinson.

    ■Mount Pleasant’s Garrett Furr pitched a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts, with two hits and two RBIs in a 3-1 victory against North Stanly.

    ■Butler’s Jake Fincher had two doubles, a home run and four RBIs in a 7-0 victory against Richmond Senior.


    SOFTBALL
    ■ Ardrey Kell’s Kalie Lang struck out 15 in a 6-0 victory against Olympic. She walked one, and allowed two hits.

    ■ Charlotte Christian’s Mallory Severs was 4-for-4 with three RBIs in a 12-6 victory against Wesleyan, including a home run and a double.

    ■ Lincoln Charter’s Victoria Morgan had seven RBIs, two triples and a double in a 23-1 victory against Clearview Christian.

    ■ Alexander Central’s Chelsea Wilkinson, a freshman, threw a no-hitter in her first prep game Monday, an 18-0 victory against East Lincoln.

    Lake Norman Catcher Joe Faist(2009 unsigned) 4-5 against Forbush Tuesday night 3/10 in a 23-8 win.


    Lake Norman lefty Pitcher Nick Lomascola(2009 Catawba signee) Throws 6 1/3 of shutout, no hit baseball surrendering 2 walks. against ashebrook wed night.3/11

    Mooresville wins in 9 innings against rival NPC foe West Rowan 7-6 on a 2 out 2 run walkoff HR by senior Dylan West. Senior Nathan Abraham just returning from injury was 3-4 in his debut for MHS. Also producing key hits and rbis for Mooresville were Billy Nantz (2 run HR) , Jake Beaver, Hunter Nanney and Aaron Meadows. This game took 3 hours and 19 minutes to play.

    Pitching by committee Aaron Meadows, Wes Dumford, Jake Beaver and Chris Bonaventure

    Mooresville has hit 5 HRs in 3 games

    Lefty Alex Wood (signed with the University of Georgia) for Ardrey Kell throws another complete game shutout in 10-0 victory over Butler high school. He only allowed 1 hit and had 8 k's out of 15 outs against a very good Butler team.

    Freshman catcher for Lake Norman High; Jack Edmiston, called up to varsity yesterday, got his first varsity start due to injury and went 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Also did a great job behind the plate in an 11-0 win against league foe; Statesville. Lake Norman improves to 5-1 and 2-0 in NPC conf...

    Ardrey Kell

    Not an individual but Kell's pitching staff has 3 players 2-0, Wood, Butler, and Lover. Kell is 6-0 with 4 shutouts, and has allowed 5 runs total this season.

    Cody Poarch (UNCG) pitched a no hitter to shut out Forsyth Country Day
    7 - 0
    He only faced 2 batters over the minimum with 7 K's.
    Improves his record to 3-0 with 3 complete game shut-outs.
