    changing times

I could not agree more with you (EastofRaleigh). Guys today have forgotten what it means to play for the guy next to them and working together to overcome adversity, and many other great lessons the game teaches us. I think showcase baseball plays a major role in losing the team concept. What happend to having pride about representing where you came from and who you play for? The one place that you should count on staying together, high school, you cant even say that anymore. Guys transfer in and out every year, some more than once. It is extremely dissapointing.

As for legion ball, I am a little bias. Having played legion, I am all for it. Now if I am a college coach, and I want the most accurate representation of a college season, legion is where to look. Don't get me wrong "showcases" have their time and place, I have experienced both. However, no matter the talent level in showcase games, nothing can prepare you for the day in day out, mental and physical demands of a legion summer. Hands down the closest thing to a college season.

Everyone can get mad at me also I love American legion baseball can not stand to watch a showcase game unless it is in the fall of year Legion has a mystic to it that is second to none for High School aged men. Showcase came about when little Johnny with lot lot's of money could not make his high school or legion team. Go to legion games and see 100's of fans go to showcase and see nobody at games other than tournament directors posing as scouts taking Johnny's mommy and daddy's money.

IF YOU ARE COLLEGE MATERIAL, THE SCOUTS WILL COME WATCH YOU, WHETHER YOU ARE PLAYING FOR THE BAD NEWS BEARS, THE MUDVILLE 9, ETC... IF IT'S COMPETITION YOU ARE LOOKING FOR, YES, IT IS PROBABLY A GOOD IDEA, BUT AS FAR AS BEING SEEN, IF YOU ARE GOOD, YOU ARE GOING TO BE SEEN. I JUST HAVE NEVER BEEN THAT MUCH A FAN OF THE "YPYP" LEAGUES(YOU PAY, YOU PLAY) ALL IT IS IS A BUSINESS IN MY PERSONNAL OPINION, A BIG MONEY RACKET, HOWEVER, IF YOUR LEGION TEAM IS FADING AWAY, THERE MAY NOT BE ANOTHER CHOICE AS TO WHERE YOU CAN PLAY, REMEMBER FOLKS, THERE COMES A TIME WHEN YOU CANNOT BUY YOUR KIDS A STARTING POSISTION ANY LONGER, FACE THE FACTS!

No disrespect, but that's one of the funniest revisions I've ever heard about Showcase. There may some element of truth to that now, but that's not how it got started.

Shop 24, personally i didn't get mad because you have the right to your opinion. The only time i get mad is when someone tells me what they say is right and everyone else is wrong. Showcase can be very expensive if you get caught up and lose sight of realistic expectations. My oldest son said that he really enjoyed playing legion ball. My boys have played most of the organize ball that is given. That is the thing to not lose sight of. There are all kind of organize ball out here, so it is up to the parents and player to find which one they want to play and then go play it and enjoy it because where ever and what ever you play it all comes to an end before we know it.

    It really is simple

everyone can choose to do what they feel is the best situation for them. Some have legion programs some dont. Some have great legion programs some dont. Regardless of what anyone else does it really is their decision to do what they want to do. There are all types of "showcase" programs out there just like there are all types of caliber of legion programs. Everyone has their own opinion based on their own experiences. What ever works for you , go for it.

    Coach27 is at it again.

IMO if what you are looking for is a place to showcase your son or daughter then you are looking in the wrong place.

Looking in the wrong place for you not them. Do they want to play at the next level? Or do you want to see them play at the next level?

Personnally I just want mine to do something he does well at and wants to do. I will look for opportunities for him. Not even thinking about D1, D2 etc..

He wants to play ball this summer. Ok. I'll look around for him. If it happens to be legion, showcase, etc, then ok. Whatever. He just wants to play some ball.

    Be smart..

enough to let your Kid drive the process.. I have a great kid who has had some looks from many teams.. He has looked at many schools but realizes his education should come before the Baseball.. the College coaches dont always looking at that.. he was smart enough to apply to schools that he can't or won't be asked to play at.. and understands he must give up some dreams if the fit for Baseball and School does not work out. i am proud of he maturity and prospective..

it doesn't mean he has to give up baseball he just has to play it where he can when he can. He will play this summer for in Palimino BAll and see where that goes..

Make it be their choice and decision.. we all go through withdrawal as the fun memories of our children playing ball becomes all too short.. remember there are other memories to come that will be just as exciting and far more important overall.

peace and good luck to all in finding the balance.

Their choice mostly likely will be the right choice!

Mine made a choice to go to UNCW where he could not play and I did have withdrawls......BUT now I am making my own memories as an umpire and my son is making us proud preparing for law school....to bad those memories are SO expensive.
