East Meck vs. Vance (Cardinal Classic)

First Game today at Pillip O Berry. East Mecklenburg completed their sweep through the Cardinal Classic by defeating Vance 12-2 in 6 innings. Don't have a official totals, but the Eagles entire lineup hit well. Trosch went all 6 for East Meck, striking out 11 while giving up only 1 earned run. Guzman started for Vance and pitched well until he lost command of the strike zone in the bottom of the 3rd. His fastball has good movement and he has a nice breaking ball too. He could give the folks up in the MECA7 some problems when he's on.

After falling behind 3-0 in Wednesday nights’ tournament finals to host Brookland-Cayce, the Titans responded with six runs to win the spring break tournament, 6-3. Hopewell finished a record of 4-1 in the Sandlapper Classic, improving to 11-4 on the season.

Sounds like Tri-8 stunk it up the first night but has gotten better each day. Neat idea for an Easter Tournament though. No real "champ", but good baseball with some solid teams.

I believe all games were close (4 run wins or less) with the exception of Southern Lee defeating Lee County by 10 and SL losing to Middle Creek by 5.

At the Douglas Byrd Tournament down in Fayetteville, The Northwood Chargers began with an impressive win over Southview HS. Southview may have been overlooking this "little ol' 2A team" from Pittsboro, but in the end they had a front row seat where they witnessed an impressive offensive display. The Chargers won the run rule shortened game 20-2!
Kyle Hackney gave up only two hits in 5 innings and Matt Wade led the way at the plate with two absolute bombs (one to dead center over the 410' sign and one opposite field shot to right) that set the pace for the offensive explosion.

The Chargers have scored over 70 runs in the past week!

 

Holly Springs is 2-0 with the Middle Creek game rescheduled for this Wednesday at 4 at HS.
