Northwood continues it's dominant performance in the Douglas Byrd Tournament with a 15-2 defeat of Grays Creek
Austin Brice led the Chargers on the mound with Jon Polak coming on to shut the door.

    Northwood wins!

The Chargers (Mid State 2-A) came back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Douglas Byrd High School in the Tournament held at Douglas Byrd, 5-4.
Kyle Hackney had two triples to pace Northwood at the plate and after some shaky starting pitching, Bradley Jefferies came on to throw four shut out innings to get the win.
Northwood plays tomorrow in the Copperhead Invitational at 5:00 in Asheboro.

    Perfect Night at the Stadium

Made the short drive over to the historic town of Tarboro for the 16th annual Easter Tournament Championship game last night. Unfortunately my running buddy SoutherNo1 could not make the trip with me.....GET THIS he had to go to his daughters prom for some sort of daddy first dance thingy!!!!!

Old Municipal Stadium is a beautiful venue with the best cooks in eastern North Kakalaki and the volunteers are wonderful hosts. The committee each year invites 4 teams from out of state usually from New Jersey, Ohio, Maryland and Virginia and has 4 in state teams (West Stokes, Southwest, Lawrence Academy and Tarboro). St Maria Goretti from Maryland has played in this event all 16 years and is the school that Nick Adenhart attended. May he rest in peace.

The Tarboro Vikings played the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers (VA) in this championship game and the host team having won this event only once before in 1996 found themselves in big time trouble as the first 3 Cavaliers reached base with no outs to start the game. Matt Boykin then struck out the clean up batter and a diving catch by Spiers Miller at 2nd base led to an inning ending double play and the local boy's took that Mojo to propel them to an 8-1 victory. All tournament players Miller and Kyle Norville had big hits in the first inning and the Vikings never looked back. Boykin went the distance after having earned the save the night before. He struck out 9 including all 3 of the Cavaliers in the 7th inning and allowed only 3 hits with the run being unearned. He told me after the game that he was going to continue his playing days at Pitt Community.

Most of you TBR folks don't know the name Spiers Miller but you do know the name Tyler Hanover and this kid plays just like him.

I had a great time and I did make it back in time for the last dance at the prom. Q really looked funny in his white tails Tuxedo.

Well, what made it so funny was that he could still fit into the one he wore in HS. But what makes Q's "original" prom picture so hilarious is the mullet he was sporting. I bet his son, Jim, had no idea that his pops was so cool back in his day!
