Isn't there a rule about coaches staying in the coaches box at 1st & 3rd?

    Don't kill the messenger !!!

The coach ended up close enough to the box for that not to be an issue, as our pitcher balked pretty quickly with all the chaos.

Just to clarify my position on this, I also wish that these things never happened, but as we know that they do, sometimes it's better to experience them and learn from them, especially when it didn't effect the outcome of the game. Guy on 3rd and pitcher using windup, every coach has some play designed to take advantage of that situation - i.e. as runner goes, batter steps out or batter squares to bunt, etc. So this just was just another confusion tactic. I certainly understand the outrage, that's why I mentioned it, thought it fit in well with the topic.

My 17 cents. I think that is what Im up to.

I think a great football coach once said, "I can take mine n beat yurns, and I can take yurns and beat yurns." Something like that.

To the point. If you need to use "bush" to beat someone then IMO you aint worth a darn.

To add to another post that is being discussed here. If you dress like a player then are you player? Nope. Not today you are not. Check the history as to why coaches currently dress like their players. Coaches originally dressed as players because thats what they where. Now adays it has become custom to dress like your players for that reason. NOT because you can actually play with them. No way could most coaches at an level play at the level they are coaching at. SOME could but most can't!

This game is easier to coach than it is to play.

Now when these coach "want to be" players can't figure the other coach out they will use "bush." They may even start out using "bush" stuff. Simply because they know they are outmatched to begin with.

These kinds of coaches IMO are trying to take short cuts. They didn't put in the effort AND didn't insure their players put in the hard work necessary to win.

No problem. If you as a coach need to defer to what may considered "bush" then you can be rest assured that I will be more than interested in doing the same.

Good post Gloveside,,, and thats what it really all comes down to,,, people who put in the effort, and people who don't.

It really shows in the players (and coaches) who work hard during the season and during the offseason too,,, and people who work hard to do things "RIGHT" and do it to the best of their ability,,, simply don't have to resort to bush level tactics. Just don't.

    My own take back.

In regards to coaches wearing the same uniform as the players. Ive personally been wrestling with this one for a while. Im not sure what I think of it actually. What I said in this post was my own struggle with this. Another poster mentioned that he admired his coach for wearing the same uniform as the players. He saw the coach as one of them. One of the players. Doing his/her thing for the team. Struggling right along side them. This, for me, was good to hear. This might be the right balance. However I would only be able do dress as a player would if I felt that I had struggled along side them in their efforts. Only if I had did my best for them. Only if I had worked my best for them as their coach. I would then feel like part of the team and WOULD be HONORED to wear the same uniform that they to had EARNED to wear. The uniform they played in.

Just some second hand thoughts and a re-dress to myself and an appology to any I might have offended.

I also need to correct myself on this.

"These kinds of coaches IMO are trying to take short cuts. They didn't put in the effort AND didn't insure their players put in the hard work necessary to win."

I should have said, "They didn't put in the effort AND didn't insure their players put in the hard work necessary to COMPETE."

    taunting or cheering?

I was at a high school baseball game in union county last week where the team was constantly chanting, the chanting appeared to be directed at the opposite pitcher and bordered on taunting. The coach got thrown out in the first inning and the third base coach was talking to the third baseman all during the game. Is this kind of thing acceptable? This was an excelent team with talented players and they thoroughly beat us. However, they certainly didn't need to use these tactics. At least teams like hopewell thrash you with some class. I thought I got away from this stuff when my daughter got beyond middle school rec softball.

    At some places........

I learned that long time ago....
If you are the home team. Take really good care of the. Feed them, give them gatorade instead of water (fresh one every inning) give them praise before add after every inning and slip them a half a buck ($50). You would not believe how that will help the strike zone & close plays.... Lesson learned.
