    yes and no.....

....I was at the UNC/Tenn. game in Chapel Hole, lol. Feb, 10, 2007
Tenn. runner at 1st, batter, lefty, 2 strikes in her count, slaps a grounder to 3B.
Runner at 1st advances to 2B, batter out at 1B, official scoring was a sac hiit (sh) for Chiles.
No home cooking because UNC was the home team.
    FYI
    Scored right or wrong?

The NCAA rulebook has a Note specifically about slapping and sacrifices:

The ATEC Scoring Manual addresses sacrifices a little different:

and NFHS doesn't even mention slapping as part of the sacrifice:

    NFHS definition of a BUNT:
So, in the NCAA game, it was scored correctly.

From most of the replys on this subject, "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SAC."
Who determines if the batter isnt trying to hit behing the runner to advance her.????????

    A little off topic...

    ART. 2 . . . Attempted Bunt.
Any non-swinging movement of the bat intended to tap the ball into play. Holding the bat in the strike zone is considered a bunt attempt. In order to take a pitch, the bat must be withdrawn – pulled backward and away from the ball.

For the rule above. I seem to remember a thread on this board a while back where it was stated the batter has to attempt to bunt the ball, i.e. move the bat. In other words, they could leave the in the strike zone and still have a ball called as long as they do not move the bat. Perhaps that is another rule that is different depending on who's rulebook you are looking at?

A year ago, it was that you could hold the bat in the strike zone. But, NFHS changed that rule over the winter and the above rule is the new one for high schools.
