Marty Barker has been diagnosied with a Brain Tumor. The tumor is the size of a baseball behind his right ear. This tumor is wrapped around his Carotid Artery, which in turn makes this more dangerous.

He will be undergoing a very serious and delicate surgery to remove this on March 28th at Carolina Medical Center. I am asking that every Softball and Baseball parent, player, coach, umpire and friend please pray for Marty and his family during this difficult time. Marty is not looking for sympathy just lots of hugs, smiles and prays. Thank you TBR family.

To give some background of Marty. He was the commissioner at Park Sharon Association for many years. After seeing many of the players in the association leave to go play travel ball, he was upset that others were being left behind. Many were not the most talented player, but they loved playing baseball and they wanted to improve. Marty opened HQ4 to address that concern and to give all players at any talent level an opportunity to improve their game with excellent instructions.

He convinced many of the top HS coaches in Charlotte to help him in targeting the young players that did not have an opportunity to advance their skills without his help. While some people point fingers at others for trying to capitalize on baseball for financial reasons, I doubt Marty has ever made a dime. HQ4 has never been a moneymaker, nor was it intended to be. It has found a niche by serving those players that were left behind...and by affording the opportunities for all young players to get the best instructions one would need. You will find Marty and his partners at many Rec league associations because that is where his heart lies.

Reading this makes my heart drop. Marty hired me when he opened HQ4. He's one of the guys you feel like you've known forever after talking with him for a few minutes. This guy has never met a stranger. Its amazing what he has done for baseball in this area. I'll be praying for him and know that he will come out of this with another story to tell.

    THANKS!

Folks, thanks for all the prayers and kind thoughts, I'll be fine! I'm truly touched by all the calls and emails. I knew I had a lot of friends but WOW!

Being a bottom line kind of guy the only way I know to look at this is to put it in the hands of the good lord and some smart doctors. There is nothing I can do.

I do have one major goal. Surgery on May 28th. Doc says 3-5 days in the hospital. My middle son, Andy, graduates on June the 4th. I'm very much planning to attend his graduation. I WILL BE THERE ANDY!
