When I heard this, i had to turn away to stop from laughing at the poor guy:

My SS came in off the field and told me the ump had warned a runner from the other team about leaving early???? warned???

I approached the ump and asked why he would warn a runner this late in the season and why this wouldnt be a dead ball foul???

    His reply:

"It's only a dead ball out if she leaves early to try and steal, any player can leave before the ball leaves the pitchers hand if they return to the base they came from"

dont want this to become a bashing thread, just post some of the things you've heard from umps.

    Can anyone top this one???

    Great thread cheeze!

I just hope people use it for what you intended. Here is one that still makes me smile...

"The pitcher is allowed to have both feet off the ground at the same time as long as her back foot does not land before she lets go of the ball."

An ump asked me once what I was smiling at just after he had made a really bad call. I told him I wasn't smiling, that I had gas.

We had a game the other night in Rec ball and we were down 2 runs going in the bottom of the last inning. He called game over and when I asked why he said " Oh i didn't think you would want your last at bat"

I still haven't figured out that one. We did get to bat and still lost, but that still blew my mind.

had an ump tell us before the game to tuck our shirts in and look professional.......when i asked about the other team he stated: oh, they're the home team, it doesnt matter in that case..........

had a behind the plate umpire who liked to throw bats towards the dug out after an at bat, actually hitting one of my girls as she came out of the dug out. when we asked him to not pick up our bats, as we would take care of that, he stated: its my job to make sure the bats are not laying around and your batters need to get out of the way of my throws?????

During the game at NW Cabarrus

My daughter was told she "intentionally turned into the ball" and got hit in the 8th inning. She replied, "sir, that is my surgically repaired knee, why would I risk that" and he said, "I am going to need for you not to take that tone with me" and she said something else and he called the OTHER TEAM's TRAINER (instead of our coaches) for her when he found out she was really hurt. Was all a bit stupid..

She has always been taught the back knee starts the swing (Thanks Marci) and she did that and could not get out of the way. How is that intentional?

Other than that little exchange, he was pretty good. Gave both pitchers the corners
