    Apex-6 WFR-5

Congrats to Apex, they have a strong team 1-9, excellent coaching and a clutch pitcher.

I'm real proud of our girls at WFR to have battled back. We were down 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh and had a two out, three run rally and had the tying run on 2nd with one of our best hitters up (number 3 in the batting order). I'll take my chances with Jordan Scarboro at the plate every game. Hats off to the Apex pitching for fielding a hard it ball up the middle and ending the game.

Jordan is an awesome player! I love to watch her play!
WFR has quite a few good players. Jordan will be back. Erica and Kelly are going to be missed big time.

Erica had a huge game going 2-4 with 3 RBI I believe and Kelly has been a rock on the mound. Of the 6 runs only 3 were earned against an Apex team that hits well. They will definitely be missed along with our other seniors Kacey, Madison, Brodbeck and Liz.

    Thanks Guys...

Appreciate the comments about our catcher and team. They were excited and ready to play. We had a great time and enjoyed the atmosphere very much. Bitter sweet of course to say goodbye to our seniors; don't think it has hit home yet. I wasn't going to post anything other than the score until I saw the nice comments; so I will elaborate on the seniors for a moment.

Our third baseman is Missy Wills who is heading to Western Carolina in the fall. She is a stone cold hitter - full of confidence all of the time. She is just that good. I would NEVER want to pitch to her...heck before the game today I was standing a little too close to the front toss net and she drilled me in the forehead. Yes I saw tweety birds for a second. She said "you OK, sorry coach." I said "sorry, are you kidding, you hit like that tonight OK!" And she did. This kid's discipline and bat speed is simply unreal. Have fun Southern Conference pitching to her the next four years.

Leah Quant is the pitcher and her stuff was moving very well tonight. Laxton fought off several pitchers in her HR AB to win that one. I think it says a lot about a kid (LQ) who gives up a run like that (incredibly difficult to swallow in that situation) and comes back to continue throwing a one hit game to that point and end with three hits and then herself hits a bottom of the 7th HR with no outs. She will head to Limestone in the fall.

Kelsey VanderHill is our catcher and she has done an awesome job for us for the last three years. She has made some very big plays and had some big hits when we have needed them. She makes the pitchers look good and handles them very well. Her heart is twice the size of her five foot stature and we would take her on our team any day of the week. She has gutted and persevered through some very challenging things this last year in her own life and she stayed with the game even when it would have been ok to hang it up. She has never let us down. We love her; she is what Providence Softball is supposed to be about.

For the followers here are the stats:
    WP: Wilkerson 12 K's, 4 hits, 2 BB's, 2 ER
    LP: Quant 8 K's, 3 Hits, 2 BB's, 2 HBP

    ACHS: 3 hits
    Laxton - 2/3 HR, 2B
    Setzer - 1/3 1B

    Providence: 4 hits
    Wills 2/3
    Quant 1/3 - HR
    Covert 1/3
