The best quote I've ever heard about Rose came from Coach27

"Rose is just Rose. A bunch of gritty ball players that you have to kill like a snake. You got to cut off their head , beat it with a hoe and then burn all of it with gas. If not they will find a way to beat you."

Wolfe dominated Rose for four innings with I think one hit. Bottom of 5th Rose score 5 runs to go up 5-3. Big hit was a double by Chase McDonald to drive in our 2nd run and a 3 run homer by CF Preston Mobley. In the 6th Jason Sugg hit a solo to make it 6-3. It was an exciting ending for Rose after it was looking pretty grim down 3-0 after the top of the 5th with Wolfe in control. I am sure it was a disheartening loss for our Sanderson friends but there are more games to play.

I will add that Rose tried to steal on Max Gagnon in the 2nd which is the dumbest move you can make. Max has an absolute cannon for an arm. Our fastest player tried to steal, had a good jump but got hosed by Max. The throw arrived at 2nd at the same height it left Max's hand. What an awesome catcher.

Credit where credit is due dept....

Wolfe did a great job nibbling and not giving Rose anything to hit. He was constantly ahead in the count. He really looked strong through 4, but his pitch count was starting to get up...

Gagnon made Wolf look like Maddux tonight. He did a great job behind the dish sticking pitches for the "umpire". The throw he made to second as mentioned above was a WOW.

Danny Deters did his job on the mound for Rose tonight. Gave up some hits, gave up some runs, but kept it close. While Rose hitters were quiet early, they were patient and executed the game plan. While Wolfe did a good job working the top of the lineup (as expected), Rose's lower half did a great job working counts and extending the innings. So, when it was time...it was on... 5th Inning...Warren Harvey leads off with a double to left center.... Houmard hit by pitch, Parrot with single (scores Harvey) but Houmard caught at third for out, Merritt hits single, Roy strikes out... 2 strike / 2 out hitting cranks out a double by McDonald and an absolute badonkadonk out of dead centerfield by Preston Mobley on a first pitch fast ball puts Rose ahead 5 -3 and Jason Sugg yokes one out of left in the 6th to seal the deal.

Was good to see Pirate and friends and at least they were happy with me when they finished their meal at Abrahms... :fireman:

Tomorrow evening promises to be a good game yet again. Sanderson has matured as a team since last year and made for a fun game tonight. Looking forward to the short drive West and playing game 2!

Happy Birthday RV! Was a good Birthday!

    Sanderson takes game two

Sanderson rebounds vs Rose in convincing 8-3 win

Excuse me as I had to work today and could not write up game 1 - - Diesel and drncvol did a great job. The Spartan faithful were fatten up by Diesel’s recommendation at Abrahms, saw a great game with the Spartans taking a 3-0 lead but knew that Rose was going to make a move and did they. A move was made with the bats in a solid 6-3 win over Sanderson.

Good thing this is a best of three series and game 2 is at Sanderson Field.

Tonight Sanderson had an overflowing home crowd ready to cheer on their boys of summer in a must win situation. P Max Gagnon got the call to start on the hill and had Rose’s batter all twisted around for five plus innings. Got pulled in the 6th with two outs and bases loaded. Sr John McFarling came to the hill & Gagnon now became C Gagnon. McFarling closed out the game.

Through 5 2/3 innings, Gagnon struck out 8 batters and allowed one hit, Chase McDonalds single past first base in 4th inning. Gagnon did not have a walked batter until the top of the sixth when he was running out of gas. He hit Patrick Roy, walked Chase on a full count and hit Patrick Mobley. Time for a new pitcher.

Rose got three runs off 3 hits in the top of the seventh.

Sanderson scored in each of the first four innings for a 8-0 lead.

    WP -- Gagnon (7-2) -- 5.67 IP, 8 K’s 2 HB , 1 W, no runs.

Sanderson batters – Kyle Wigmore (1-3, SAC, rbi, 2 runs), Robert Brunson (1-4, run), Charles Wolfe (3-4, 3 rbi’s, run), Max Gagnon (1-4, dbl, rbi, run), Kyle Wood (0-2, 2 W, run), Jon King (1-4, rbi), Daniel Adams (0-1, W, HB, run), Sam Beavans (0-2, W, run) and Travis Trumps (2-2, W, run).

Rose batters -- Patrick Roy - he worked his a?? off behind the dish. Great defensive game was 1-2, HB, dbl, 2 rbi, Chase McDonald – what a fun kid watch play was 1-3, W. Warren Harvey (1-2, run), Tommy Houment (1-3, run), Grayson Parrott (0-2, W, run).

    Rose 000 000 3 3
    Sanderson 232 100 X 8

Now onto game three in a must win game for both teams.

Game time is 2:00 p.m. Guy Smith Stadium. See you in Greenville.
