All CAP 7 4th round Sanderson @ Millbrook

GoingGoingGone -- did you make it out to the game? If you did I hope you were not surprised by the outcome. Sanderson was on fire and Millbrook did not know what hit them. Millbrook had great season and they are a very good team but I don't know if they expected Sanderson to come at them so early with pitching (They had not seen C/P Gagnon on the mound in the 2 reg. season games vs Millbrook), solid defense and the bats were smoking.

 

Who pitched for Millbrook?

Actually several things did surprise me about the game. First of all that Jake Harris didn't pitch for Millbrook. Even though he didn't, I still would have suspected that Millbrook would have pulled out a close game. I saw both teams several times this season and Millbrook impressed me as being not only a very "intelligent and fundamentally sound" team but also one that was well coached.

Sanderson put it to them though - good luck in games two and three against Rose.

Does anyone know why Harris didn't pitch? Was it because he needed a little more rest between outings or was it a "looking ahead" strategy? I could understand either one although Mr. Hindsight is sometimes a haunting companion...

 

Jake Harris pitched a complete game the friday before against Apex. He might of had close to 100 pitches or more. I feel the Millbrook coach was watching out for his player. Jake has a super future ahead of him at ECU. I applaud the coach for doing that. Why have him pitch possibly 200 or more pitches in 5 days for a chance to win and take a chance in injury.
If Jake would have pitched everyone would have said "I can't believe they pitched Jake. What are they doing?" I wish more high school coaches would do the same with their pitchers.
Kudos to the Millbrook coach for putting the player before the win.

 

Pitching Staffs!

The way the playoffs are structured, it does put a strain on the pitching staffs. The chance of over-throwing the #1 is apparent. You do, eventually find out who the #3 & #4 guys are for each contender. The key to winning a state championship may be how good your 3-4-5 guys are.

 

Seems like the horse can get you there BUT......

This holds true for Chris Berry at Rocky Mount last year.
