All good points but it is still unfortunate the kid(s) gets hurt because the coach MAY not be everyone's favorite. Wideout makes a good point that everyone there deserved to make it. I think Braves would tell you not to put too much stock in this.

Picking any allstar team has its flaws, you have some coaches who take this process very seriously and some who just don't. Bottomline don't lose any sleep over it if you feel some are deserving and don't make it,,, yet at the same time congratulations to those who do.

The fact of the matter, is that every single one of those athletes themselves (teammates and opponents) ALL KNOW who the better players are,,, and that respect an athlete receives from his peers and opponents is both earned and very credible.

J.C. did deserve to make all conference with the numbers he put up and Marvin Ridge should have gotten 5 players with a 16-0 record especially when 3 other teams had 3 players each and the next closest team only having 10 wins.

I heard each team in our conference is allowed one player on the all-conference team for every 3 conference wins. What do you all think of that method?

I'm not sure where you got your information, but it is inaccurate. Here is the breakdown of teams and how many players that made all-conference:

    MR-4
    Piedmont-3
    Anson-2
    PR-2
    HR-2
    SV-2
    Concord-1
    AL Brown-1
    Parkwood-1

I'm not saying Howze should or shouldn't have made it. I'm just threw out potential reasons he didn't. Again, just like choosing State games rosters, it is a imperfect science.

Put all the names in a hat. Pull out the kids who have signed. Pull out the ones that have not signed yet have good stats. Pull out the ones that have not so good stats but great grades. Then, let's be sure to pull out the kids that have been there everytime ready to go pratice and game time have good grades. What do we have left? I say put them as all conferance. Then see the noise that is made about picking these players.

    It happens all the time

a coach nominates his players but can not vote for his players. The more you nominate the more players you will have left off that were nominated. The better your team the more you will have not make it that should have made it. Its simple math.

You are never going to pick anything and not leave someone off that deserved to make it. Its simply impossible. There is no perfect system. If you nominate 7 guys and you have dominated the conf and those 7 guys are 7 of the best players in the conf you are still not going to get all of those guys on the team. Is it fair? No. But what really is fair?

We went 14-0 outscored our opponents 161-11 one year and we got 4 AC. We were very good our conf was very weak. There might have been two or three guys in the entire league that could have played for us that year. But those other coaches are working just as hard for their kids and you are working for yours. If you think all of the coaches go in to those meetings saying "OK lets sit down and make sure we get the top 18 or 20 guys regardless of where they play or who they play for" your wrong.

It would be great if there was a way to ensure that all the deserving players made all conference. But there is not.

There are so many scenarios its endless. A kid is brought up from JV pitches against every weak opponent goes 7-0 and makes AC. Another guy gets all the tough games and goes 3-3 and is a way better than the 7-0 guy. You nominate them both but the 7-0 guy makes it. Is that fair? A kid hits .475 in conf racking up ridiculous stats in conf against the weak teams but doesnt hit his weight against the quality opponents. Another kid struggles against the 70 mph pitching gets pitched around and hits .350 but tears up the quality arms and helps you win the tough games. Both are nominated and the kid hitting .475 makes it and the other kid does not. Is that fair? What did those stats mean?

If you feel you deserved to make it and you didnt , chalk it up to life is not fair and it doesnt mean squat about me as a player. If you did make it be proud of the fact you did.

I know nothing about this particular situation. It sounds like this young man had a great year and is a tremendous player. He is not the first to be snubbed and he will certainly not be the last. Prove them all wrong everytime you get the chance.
